I visited Borrelli's Taproom on 5/26/23. My fiancé and I stopped in for drink as we have been looking forward to their opening since hearing they were coming to town, especially since I recalled visiting the original location as a kid often with my grandparents who were friends with the owners. After having a drink each, I paid my $20 or so dollar tab and tip and left looking forward to coming back when we would have more time.
Early the next morning I had a call from my bank asking whether or not the $390 charge on my card from Borrellis was correct. I explained that I spent $25 or so and there must have been a mistake but they said that charge was also there and went through. This erroneous charge came in at 1:30 noting the card was not present at transaction and that it was typed in. My debit card had to be cancelled and I spent Memorial Day weekend with no access to cash.
I went down in the morning and asked if there was a manager I could speak to. The man behind the bar said yes and then just continued wiping it down. I asked if I could speak to him to which he replied you are. I guess it was on me to know that he was the manager. I explained what had happened and he had a hard time understanding what the issue was since the money was still in the account. The attempted fraud or mistake from their end entering numbers was ok because it was unsuccessful apparently. I showed him the fraudulent activity printout and also explained that the bank said it's very possible the info was copied and he just confidently said it wasn't without offering other explanations. He stepped out to make a few phone calls and came back each time with no explanation. When I said I had no access to cash anymore with my card cancelled his only response was that it was weird they cancelled over such a small charge. I can only imagine how that statement would have come across to someone who that amount of money is a big deal to.
I told him my bank recommended i call police to have it on record but chose not to assuming this trip was going to be more helpful. He finally offered to call the company, take my number and call me back with an explanation. Needless to say that didn't happen.
I told him that my fiancé and I were joking before I left, not knowing how terrible the experience would be, about how we would get a drink or app on the house next time we came and something as basic as that wasn't even offered. To which he responded again, no money was taken in the end. The inconvenience of not having access to my debit account/ cash again was just not something he seemed to care about.
As someone with parents, in laws, siblings, nieces/nephews etc... in the area this would have been the perfect place to...
Read more6/5 🌟. From walking in the door during a great amateur artist on acoustic guitar (perfect volume, didn't have to scream to talk to my date), to the delicious after dinner drinks Borellis was top notch. Ambiance and atmosphere were fantastic (brick wall bar, open patio on a beach block with plentiful seating), service and friendliness were amazing, my guy Kevin was not only amazingly friendly and funny, but on top of food/bev whenever we needed something and quite prompt about it. Food/Drink smelled/looked/tasted amazing. It's one of those places you know everything is tasty as soon as you walk in and see/smell all the tasty dishes going by. The pizza is impeccable, the apps were great. Go for the food, stay for the fun times type place. Will be back probably twice a month for the rest of my long beach...
Read moreWas really excited to try this place out tonight with my girlfriend . Place is a ghost town to begin with but meanwhile every other bar in the west end is popping and lively . We got rice balls , baked clams and burrata pizza . Rice balls tasted like they were fresh out of the microwave and were disgusting , baked clams had so much sand in them as I was eating , I thought I was swimming in Long beach . The burrata on pizza was a disappointment as little chunks and way too much arugula . The place is a ghost town it’s the only bar in the west end that is constantly empty . Was looking forward to borellis tap room as borellis in the East meadow is a classic Italian restaurant . This place in west end has to be better . Service was great because once again it was a...
