Ok after visiting here a 2nd time I can confidently write this review. Roc-n-Ramen is a marvelation(I had to create a new word to describe this place as it deserves one!) to the sense. So unassuming from the outside, little does one know what awaits for them inside. Walking thru the doors your greeted by a lot of earthy tones and a tropical vibe. It has that noodle house feel and the kitchen behind the counter is bustling with cooks and preps working in a seemingly choreographed chaos. The smells wafting in the air a reminiscent and familial akin to a traditional ramen house w/a hint of flair, a dash of flavor and soul that definitely originates in the West Indies. Yes you are reading this correctly, Caribbean Fusion Ramen people! At first upon glancing at the menu one's mind races at all the incredible combinations and wonders if such a thing will really be a hit.....from oxtail to chicken curry to bbq spare rib to jerk. All those beloved island dishes get flipped on there heads and dunked in a bowl of wonderfully prepared broth. I have so far tried three variations: Chicken Curry, Jerk Chicken Shoyu/ Pork Tonkatsu and all have been phenomenal. The curry is out of this world. Its a island style curry that has that peppery edge to it and differs from the south asian version one would find in indian places, this one is more floral and fragrant. Nice uniform bite-size pieces of curried chicken that must be marinated to hold their flavor throughout the entire experience. The ramen noodles come out perfectly dense and w/ the right bite. The veggies are all fresh and high quality and the portions are more than large enough to justify the price. You don't leave here feeling shorted by any means. And they have Mega bowls if you're feeling insatiable and have an hour or two extra to kill. My favorite thing on the menu thats not ramen is the karaage chicken (traditional Japanese Fried Chicken) hands down! This is the best version of karaage I have ever had! The chicken thighs are marinated in what i have to guess is a spiced soy sauce overnight, chopped into small bites then breaded in a seasoned panko-like crumb that has chinese five spice and what I think might be ginger and something else. They come in a basket perfectly fried and crisp w/and addictive crunch. Paired with the dipping sauces and the house secret hot sauce and Im literally sending my mouth on vacation w/every bite!! Between the variety and flavors of the food and drinks as well this place should be a staple in everyone's rotation! Chef Wayne is a great guy who always makes you feel welcomed. His Trinidad roots reflect strongly in his food and his passion is limitless. My favorite restuarant I visited in 2019, looking forward to many more in the 2020! A...
Read moreFirst i want to start off by saying to the young man who was cooking everything in the back, i felt bad for him because not only did he do the cooking, he tried his best to handle customer service as well, so thank you for trying. Before i decided to write this review, i read many good things about Roc n Ramen. But it seems like it's only locals and "friends" of the owner that's writing these feedback. I was misguided by these dishonest reviews and so i wasted my time and my woman's time. From the moment i walk in, Chef wayne tells me to pick any of the two tables to sit and i did. A customer walks pass by me and bumps her whole bag on my arm. Which is fine i get it, it wasn't a big deal. But it bothered me enough where i wanted to move seats. I got up and went to the table behind us that was still dirty, menu was all wet, cups of water left by the previous customer. I mentioned to you Chef Wayne, this isn't our stuff, we just wanted to move to a different seating. You took our order, left and forgot all about the beers. For about 10 minutes, the waiter decided to clean every other table beside ours, still haven't been offered water at least. At this point i just wanted to be comfortable, we moved to a bigger table and apparently we weren't allowed to sit there because "that's your only big tables for big parties. I'm here, we're hungry, no one isn't here to claim these seats, why couldn't we just sit where we wanted to. I don't do reviews at all, but this place needed more of my opinion. This 1 star rating is for 1) By far the worse Ramen i've ever encountered. I could've finessed a better dish at home with local ingredients. 2)Customer service is horrible. You don't have full blown conversations with select customers. Everyone should feel as welcome as the next customer. And not to mention i seen you direct a couple to sit somewhere in the back while you continue your conversation with a group of good people. Chef, your only as good as your last dish. There's no need for someone to mention their resume of food and what impact and recognitions it had on the world. Let the dishes do the talking for itself. I'll eat on floor with a lamp as my light, but just let the food do the talking. And why was i staring at a sign telling me to notify the owner and the rest of the staffs that the food is good? And why are you yelling at the top of your lungs to say thank you? My appreciation and gratitude is expressed through my tips and my un-obligated feedback. I chose your shop to support the locals, and give your location a chance. Instead of going to corporate (Buffalo Wild Wings) where service attentive. I went to you, and what a disappointment. What a waste of time and money. Never recommending this...
Read moreI wasn't expecting to like this place but it was really good. The only thing I would work on is the fatness of the oxtail. Other than that, it was delicious.edited 7-31-19 Since the first time I came here, I have came here several times because the food is bomb. However we can not overly look anymore the way the service is. Not only is it slow however you can tell how different you are treated compared to certain persuasions. Now you can say well we are a small place and we were busy... but if you have time to gossip and joke around among your peers you have time to get my drinks. You have time to prepare my meal, you have time to pay attention and give us what we ask for. We shouldn't have to ask you repeatedly where our drinks are. We shouldn't have to wait 20 minutes for soda that taste like seltzer and if were weren't looking, we would have been charge for drinks we didn't enjoy. The food when its done correctly, I won't take away from this place is done really good. However there are days like today where someone dropped the ball and anything that could go wrong, did. I can no longer patronage a place that doesn't treat everyone that walks through the door the same way. If you going to lack service with me, you better be lacking service with the white professional men coming in the door as well. But obviously that isn't going to happen. So as good as you may treat them, I want the same treatment. Today we had Nicolas. This was the first time in a long time, I could not for the life of me tip for poor service. Sorry couldn't do it. I could not over look the neglect and the carelessness. The chef that prepared our oxtail ramen isn't the same chef I normally see and he doesn't have the same finesse. This is the first time that I can say if we had a spoonful or two of broth, that would have been a lot. It just was off. The oxtails were great and the owner they take into account the fatness of the oxtails and I appreciate he heard the feedback. I just was so upset after today experience. We brought our sister to put her on to what our little ramen addiction was and ended up apologizing to her. That guy Nicolas doesn't need to be doing this job. He can tell toward the end that we were all frustrated with him and he tried his hardest to wish us a good night and get home safely, by that time if I were another person, I would have left without paying the bill. That was how...
