The Wooden Spoon — Restaurant in City of New Rochelle

Came here recently for dinner before a movie, because the menu looked so delicious online with lots of variety - but left underwhelmed, a little grossed out and disappointed.

I'll break this down in sections.

Drinks:

Water is provided upon seating and the waitress was so sweet, however before drinking from my school cafeteria-style cup I found glittery lip gloss prints on the rim of the cup! So gross! The waitress brought over a new one and while it did not have the same left-over stain, the rim looked smudged. Our cocktails (a Jim Beam honey and 7-up drink which was just 'ok', an old-fashioned) both tasted like it was watered down liquor and some kind of simple syrup.

Food:

Ordered the street corn, DIY "Mac N' Cheese" with truffle and fried chicken bits inside. Street Corn was lacking flavor. The Mac N' Cheese can be a hit or miss in many places but the pasta itself tasted unseasoned and was really oily with the truffle oil. I found myself constantly using the salt and pepper shakers. My boyfriend ordered the "Steak Frites", and said it was decently cooked but lacking flavor.

Overall food was kind of mediocre and drinks weren't great. As I said the waitress was very sweet and her service was prompt - so no reflection on her. I can't speak to what went down in...

We visited this place on a slow afternoon (Wed or Thu). Our host was a pleasant young man, as we decided to dine in, we chose were we would like to sit. The young server recommended the in house made sauce for the wings. Our burgers were cooked as we requested, but it lacked seasoning. The tater tots and onion rings were delicious and authentic. The mac n cheese was creamy and cheesy but we definitely had better. Our server kept checking in with us and ensured we are taken care of. When we requested the tab, we asked if they do Military or Law Enforcement discounts. Our server was unsure and looked at lady behind the counter, whereof she replied "I need to see ID, .......and IF YOU ARE, thank you." She looked down at us with her glasses sitting at the tip of her nose, with appalling rudeness. Who walks into a family establishment and asks for these kind of discounts as a joke... The lady's whole demeanor changed when my fiancé showed her Military AND Law Enforcement ID. She was not rude to other customers in the restaurant during our visit. But gave as an attitude for asking a question. I wonder if she does this to all American Indians with copper...

Visited here tonight on a whim and really happy I did! It was happy hour all night! We sat at the bar though there were plenty of tables available. Ordered the pink lemonade and jungle juice and wow! The drinks alone had me planning my next visit. We ordered the classic burger and the burner which happens to be the burger of the month. We really enjoyed our burgers. They were cooked perfectly. The onions on my burger were cooked to perfection and the pickles were delicious. The potato bun was fresh and tasty. I had sweet potato fries on the side and they were great. They were very light on the grease which I enjoyed. What really added to our experience was the great service. Fron (not sure of the spelling, sorry!) was behind the bar and he was extremely welcoming. He was attentive and gave us the rundown of other weekday specials and general happenings at the restaurant. He even showed us the patio, which was super cute, but it was too chilly to be out there tonight. Great food, great drinks, great customer service and great prices can’t beat that! We’ll definitely be visiting again soon and hopefully it’ll be warm enough to sit...
