Each year I fly up from Texas to enjoy one of my favorite restaurants— Captain Jake’s. It is hard to find oyster rockefeller from where I live, so each year I am so excited to go here. Today was my last day I will ever be eating here. Our party had a reservation and waited over 10 minutes to even get water at our table. Since our waitress seemed to barely be coming around we let her know we had to catch a boat ride in 1 hour and 15 minutes. She said she’d take care of us and make sure we would be out in time. I mean 1 hour and 15 minutes is plenty of time to eat.
When it was time to order, I asked for bread and butter, Oyster Rockefeller, and Lobster and Crab Ravioli in Alla Vodka Sauce. My mom ordered the beet salad topped with salmon. To top it off, our waitress barely waited on us.
I asked if the oyster rockefeller could come without bacon in the sauce and the waitress said it is premade, so I said “Okay, then that’s fine”. The bread tasted like prepackaged Parker House Rolls, and the butter was as hard as a rock (you couldn’t even spread it). My mom’s salmon in her salad was soggy and the beets tasted canned. The alla vodka sauce looked and tasted like plain red sauce. Our waitress barely even came around and I was in a rush to catch a boat ride, so didn’t have the opportunity to complain. After a while, I noticed my oysters weren’t coming out I inquired about them to the hostess, because the waitress was nowhere to be found. When it was time to clear our plates, the waitress finally came around and I asked about my oysters. My waitress interpreted “okay, that’s fine” as “never mind”, and never put the order in. By that time it was too late to turn the order in. She asked if I wanted to take them to go? Why would I take oysters to go on a boat? Then, she asked how my ravioli was and I told her my complaint. She stated “Yeah, it doesn’t look like our usual alla vodka sauce. Usually it’s more creamy and the color is lighter in color, but it’s what you ordered. Sorry.” She didn’t offer to rectify the situation and definitely was not sorry about any of the issues we faced. She then rushed off to another table. I left so disappointed that I never got what I was so excited to come for. This restaurant has definitely gone downhill and I’m so sad, because I was so excited. You can blame it on it being busy, but I work in customer service myself and she sure was spending a lot of her time with...
Read moreNot impressed. We weren’t greeted at the door and stood awkwardly until whisked away to a table. Things seemed hectic. Our waiter only took our app order at first even though we were ready to place the full order, realized he was busy and thought what ever we can wait. Ordered 6 little necks and 6 blue point oysters for an app along with calamari. Was delivered 6 cherry stones and 6 little necks. When I pointed out I received the wrong food, I was told to keep it and my oysters would be right out. I didn’t eat the cherry stones as I don’t like them. Watched my oysters sit at the bar as my boyfriend enjoyed his calamari. Finally snagged the waiter as we was running by, and he quickly went and grabbed them. The shrimp scampi was watery and bland and my Alaskan crab legs were good, but no $49 good. The prices weren’t listed and I never had a chance to ask as the hostesses ended up taking our food order as things seemed hectic. My squash risotto was TERRIBLE, plastic tasting and it definitely made a trip to the microwave. The waiter probably spent a total of 40seconds at our table the entire night, I understand he was overwhelmed but we dropped $160 on our meal! I might add I was supposed To be charged for 6 little necks and 6 oysters as that’s what I originally ordered and the little necks were cheaper and I liked them, but I was charged for the more expensive cherry stones and oysters, at that point we just wanted To get out of there. Will never visit again which is a shame I was looking forward to maybe having a new seafood spot. The service was terrible, the food was average and prices...
Read moreeat at your own risk! no social distancing at the bar!!! everyone was talking next to each other (1 person on each stool) at the bar area like we're not living in a pandemic!!!
we had been coming here for at least three years and enjoyed the food every time. the place was clean and had good ambiance. we ordered different dishes (pasta, soup, fish & chips, etc) and never had any problems. A friend mentioned to me previously that she had gone back last summer and the food wasn't good anymore. i thought that maybe that had been an off day for them.
fast forward to yesterday, we stopped by to order take out (when i saw what i mentioned at the onset). with high expectations I ordered (2) lobster bisques, (2) clam chowders, and a beet salad. first indicator that i was not going to be happy was when i asked how big was the soup. the hostess said, "its a good container size." ummm she meant 8oz for $7 & $8 respectively. ok thats kinda pricey but we're already here so whatever. as for the beet salad $10 again pricey. so when we get home to eat... we had salty, watery, oily lobster bisque, and half full container of salad mostly filled with WILTED, BLACK, ROTTING mix greens n very few of the other ingredients!!! i am not even sure we want to try the clam chowder.
this is robbery!! these people think that since its take out they can give you garbage food and there is no way to complain!! i was shocked and angered. all this for the great...
