I was born and raised in San Diego and struggled for the last five years to find decent Mexican food in Rochester. Frankly, Chuy's is better than some of my old Mexican food haunts in San Diego and SoCal in general.
They pay attention to how well crafted their in house salsas are made, they make refried beans the real way with chili and spices and not some canned stuff. I try to order all over the menu and honestly you can throw a dart at the menu and no matter what you hit it will be amazing. My particular favorites are the carnitas and al pastor tacos. I love the tortas and flautas as well. Their bowls are hefty and they don't skimp on servings. I wouldn't be surprised if all ingredients are bought in the morning before they open. The Horchata, jamaica, and tamarindo are fantastic and perfect for hot Rochester summers! Seriously folks, this is the best Mexican restaurant in Rochester.
I would be remiss to not mention how hospitable Chuy and the staff are. The place is clean and cozy. Usually, in my experience, the best Mexican food comes from shops like this--family owned and ran, small and a menu that is both expansive (not expensive) yet precise. They care about the business and you can tell from the cleanliness, quality of ingredients, freshness, perfect salsas, and their kindness and helpfulness. Support this...
Read moreI just had the most disrespectful experience at your restaurant ever. I’ve visited many times and it’s always been a smooth and friendly interaction. Today, however, when arrived at the restaurant my mobile order was not prepared. The manager asked me to pull up an itemized receipt on your website. Due to the time (after 7:30), I didn’t have access. I did have the order number and even showed my bank transaction in which the payment came out of. He essentially told me too bad. There was nothing that could be done since the order wasn’t in the kitchen. He then proceeded to mention how something happened with another customer the week before; that has nothing to do with me. You have to pay in advance for mobile order to go through. None of this was my fault. While the manager was trying to dismiss me, your cashier found my order in the system. SMH I made it known this was the worst service I've ever had and wouldn’t patronize again. He stated, “We don’t need your business anyway.” Oh really? Is that how you treat people in the community who support your restaurant and recommend your business to other people? This has really left a bad taste in my mouth. I hope you change to more personable and tech savvy management; it will help improve...
Read moreEasily some of the best Mexican food in Rochester. It was on a Monday with about 3-4 tables full, so we got our food incredibly quick. The service up at the counter was spectacular, and the same person brought out our food. They were also very attentive to our table, helping clear things out quickly when we finished our plates. I believe the owner came out to check with us as well and chat about the restaurant. He was a very kind and respectful gentleman who was proud of the work they were doing as a family restaurant.
I had an al pastor taco, AM or PM burrito, elote bowl, flan, and tasted all 3 of the agua frescas available (Hibiscus, tamarind, and horchata). The taco was well balanced and served as a good little appetizer on its own. The burrito was spectacular and had deep flavors that all stood out on the pallette. I could taste exactly how well the eggs, steak, and refried beans were seasoned. The elote was great, but I personally don't like elote as much as I imagine I should. On the other hand, I have been trying to find a place that serves flan that I actually like, and this one absolutely blew me away. Rich butterscotch caramel flavor over silky creamy base. It was a perfect way to finish up an awesome first-time. We...
