Decided to try pizza wizard for the first time since I usually go to peels on wheels for Detroit (and other) style pizza. I ordered a regular Roni pie and an order of their brown sugar sriracha wings. Overall the food was very tasty! The pizza was solid from a flavor standpoint, but didn’t blow me away. I’m very spoiled by the fresh local and imported ingredients at peels on wheels, so my standards are pretty high. The cheese was cheese, the sauce was tasty, but the Parmesan (which was fine) was not freshly grated (I am being a stickler in this review, the food was solid) my main gripe with the pizza was the crust/undercarriage, which was mildly crispy on the corners, and soft on the sides, as well as a soggy bottom… the flavor of the crispy cheese on the side wasn’t quite as present as I’d liked. At peels on wheels the Detroit crust is always super crispy and the caramelized cheese has a very deep flavor. I’ve never gotten a soggy undercarriage at peels. I thought the brown sugar sriracha wings were delightful. Solid crisp/texture, good flavor, perfect spice level for me. I’d get these again for sure. Nothing crazy from a flavor standpoint but super tasty. The customer service was middle of the road. I walked in and was promptly given my order, hot and fresh out of the oven, but the staff was not particularly friendly. I wasn’t greeted enthusiastically or given a smile, or even told to have a great day and to enjoy my food. Just given my food in a timely fashion. The atmosphere was great! I thought the ambience was really nice, it was super clean and looked very nice. They nailed that. For the price (cheaper than peels on wheels, but bc the ingredients are not to the same level) was very reasonable. I think pizza wizard is the perfect drunk pizza place that’s going to deliver tasty pizza reliably, but if you are looking for the best tasting and highest quality pizza, I’d steer clear of pizza wizard in favor of peels on wheels. Overall I think pizza wizard is a great business and offers a solid product. Peels on wheels is more expensive but that’s because you’re paying for ingredients of the highest quality, consistency, and super friendly and informative staff. I’d give pizza wizard a 3.5 but it only lets me go in increments of 1 so I’m giving them a 3. Would order again and hope they step up their quality and customer service. I am coming at this from a very critical angle and that’s only bc I’m comparing it to the best the city has to offer. Pizza wizard will not disappoint, however I am surprised they have won pizza of the year in Rochester 3 years running when peels is clearly the superior pizza (and they have New York style, grandma style, Sicilian style and focaccia sandwiches!) I’ll be back to pizza...
Read moreMy wife and I stopped in here for lunch as she wanted to try a new pizza place.
This place is cool. It has the high ceilings and the exposed duct work and feels comfortable.
We went to the counter and saw the special. 2 slices and a soda (or Genny) for 8.50. Sounds perfect to try a place out.
I ordered 2 pepperoni sausage and hot peppers slices and my wife ordered a pepperoni sausage and bacon slice and a garlic ricotta slice.
You pay, they give you a number to put on your table, they heat up the slices an and bring them to your table.
In about 3-5 minutes you have your slices. These are about as good as deep dish get. The outside was crispy with the “burnt cheese” on the outside crusts with the sauce on top of the pizza. Crispy outside, tender inside, and left me wanting another slice. I fought of that urge but I pondered it for some time.
They have an area in the back with a cooler and cups for water and things like extra Parmesan cheese and hot sauce if you desire it.
I like hot sauces and tried the Zebs St Louis style and it was awesome. Like a combination of a slightly spicy Jamaican Jerk seasoning. I ordered some on Amazon after I tried it.
We left saying that was good pizza and next time we will order a whole pie and try it steaming hot out...

Right off the bat the first thing you’ll notice is the atmosphere this place has, from the multicolored wall and design, to the vast difference in looks of the employees (didn’t know the scene look was back! Cashier absolutely rocks and owned it), and the choice to have the kitchen completely open, it just gives off such a positive vibe, unlike the cookie cutter chain pizza places.
Though it seems like it is busy, at all times, they seem to move the food along very quickly, and it still comes out looking amazing, and tasting amazing. Even a plain ol pepperoni pizza here tastes like you just bit into the holy grail of pizza (ordering online really will take as long as advertised so expect a 45-55 minute wait).
Everyone should drop what they are doing to check this place out and get it. Sure you can go get like firecrust, or create a pizza , or even east of Chicago across the street, but $14-16 for a pizza that looks and smells like it was crafted by the pizza gods themselves?! Don’t think twice, unless it’s about getting...
