DO NOT CLIMB HERE!!! (Caps are intentional) The staff are uninspired, unmotivated, and only interested in hang out out and talking to each other. I asked for help and was told it would be a half hour. I was fine with that. I was in the gym for 1:15 minutes. During that time no came to help or check in. One female staff, spend about 20 minutes chatting with a friend. Another staff member was cleaning windows. A third was just standing on the gym floor, appearing to do nothing.
The gym climate is awful and you feel it the moment you walk in. It is a shame because the gym in Syracuse is full of life and energy. This gym is not. There is zero customer service. No one at the desk even bothers to say Hello, or anything when you leave. You are not worth the time nor energy to say Hello or Goodbye.
I have taken a belay class with an "instructor" who was so uninterested in helping you learn and who generally did not want to be there. I took a rock climbing class from a a "Coach" that was half a sleep, read from a typed sheet, and repeatedly said I would show you this but the gym is busy. You are the one you scheduled at this time. He did not know how to use a foam roller or its benefits. He openly shared that fact.
The facility looks nice and all, but the culture, and vibe is negative, unwelcoming and unfriendly. There is no customer services. They offer a family membership with little to no activities for children. They said my child could come to the rock climbing class, only to tell me when I got there he could not. How do expect a child to learn if you are not going to provide instruction?
If you want to express your concerns, you will not find a number. I call a different gym and got a number for a person to call. The phone call was return by a man that rush me off the phone and did notbwant to hear my concerns. The culture appear to be deeply rooted upper management of the organization, and it sets a tone.
I have live across the US and been a member of many gyms. This is by far the worse. I can not wait till my membership runs out. What a waste of money. Please do not walk away, run and never look back. You never know how lucky you...
Ā Ā Ā Read moreI've been going to CRG for the last several years or so here are some of my thoughts on the location
Pros: overall great facility with frequent re-sets to bouldering and top roping areas with lots of different climbing amenities: several auto-belays, a spray wall, tension board, new kilter board great inclusive community with lots of great events including competitions, fun climbing events, inclusive events (adaptive climbing day, women climb nights etc.), climbing movie nights, and others large friendly community access to other CRG facilities yoga classes weight room Good weekday hours with early hours (6am) MWF, and late closing M-F 10PM)
Cons: Relatively expensive standard membership currently 94$ / month per website Weight room recently lost a decent bit of capacity with the addition of the kilter board making it difficulty to find space to use weights during peak hours Parking lot that is typically full requiring parking on adjacent streets, however this is somewhat ameliorated by the gym providing free parking at a nearby parking garage which is a bit over a block away. Limited weekend hours at 9-6PM
Overall I've really enjoyed CRG over the years especially the community I found the higher price membership (compared to $70 at Rock ventures which has more limited facilities) worth it given that I personally got essentially two memberships in one climbing + weight gym. Recently I've been frustrated as I've found its increasingly difficult to use the weight room with the addition of the kilter board (it being January may also be contributing to this) but other members are sure to enjoy this addition. For me personally though I now find that I'm likely going to have to get a membership at a weight gym also. Overall after some insight from Jason I've updated my...
Ā Ā Ā Read moreI've been a member since 2019, and as much as I enjoy climbing here its ridiculous that the parking continues to be restricted at this location. The back lot has been closed forever without being filled in. Now there are issues with the "free parking" in the parking garage. The slick and greedy owners of that have been sending members invoices for $46 a month which is wrong. Now there is no parking outside of the facility on the road which should be a city road with a new announcement that "the property owners" will no longer allow parking. So you expect all of your members to come but not drive, or drive and risk getting charged money or be towed at their own expense. Why would we come then? Its going to send all of your business to rockventures especially since your membership prices keep going up.
You also continue to open multiple gyms in multiple states at the same time so we know that you have the money to fix the back parking lot for us to park in. Its extremely greedy of you and inconsiderate to the people who pay to make your business capable of expanding in the first place. Have some respect back for the members that keep you up and running. This needs to be...
