Rabbit Hole Tavern — Restaurant in City of Rochester

We came to this place because they had poutine on the menu. It it’s not really, it’s a garbage plate called ROC poutine. We don’t eat meat sauce so we were disappointed right away and almost left, but didn’t want to be rude. So we ordered from the menu. The catfish sandwich was soggy and not even browned at all, and the salad was more yellow ribs than anything and had no croutons. When I asked if it came with the croutons Lily- our server and manager said “well I didn’t make it” and went to get them. I got a Reuben salad so it had corned beef on it. Mostly fat. Not warm, not cold. I’m not sure how it was stored prior to being put on my salad, but I would expect it to be either hot or cold if it’s safely handled. We asked for our check without taking a bite and she came to tell us that the fish was cooked to temp and didn’t even address my salad. She said something about not being able to find a resolution, I asked for a half price discount, I think I was being nice to offer to pay anything for this experience but she gave me a smirk and took my money and brought back exact change. No discount. Then when I pushed my chair in (angrily, but not aggressively she said “you are throwing chairs!” I’ve never had such a terrible experience and to think that this is the manager acting this way! The other staff was great, apologetic and embarrassed, and nobody seems too surprised. They wouldn’t give me any contact info for anyone higher up than her. We were looking forward to trying this place out with all the great reviews, unfortunately it didnt meet our expectations at all. We had a 5:15 reservation, ordered our food by 5:30 (3 boneless chicken wing kids meals, 2 chicken salads, and 2 pizzas), the server did not check up on us and was avoiding making eye contact with us until we flagged him down at 6:15 and asked if he knew how much longer for our food because we were seeing a knighthawks game at 7. He came back out and said “sorry it should be 10 more minutes”. Then at 6:30 they finally brought out the kids meals, 6:40 they brought out our two salads, then 6:45 they brought out one of the pizzas. Then as the server is again scurrying around avoiding eye constact with us we had to flag him down and say “just put his pizza in a to go box please” and then he said “im sorry they messed it up and made it wrong but we can re-make it now” so after an hour and a half we had to just tell them to cancel his pizza. The server did apologize and was nice but the way that he was avoiding us before we flagged him down was very frustrating. The food was mediocre at best. The restaurant itself was clean and modern. We enjoyed our server as they were attentive (we were the only table.). The menu had many options and I would say it was on the pricer end for bar food. I was impressed it had a decent kids menu. The food was edible- at best. My husband ordered the queso jalapeno burger (odd they never asked how we wanted it cooked-should have left then). We questioned if we could get it medium ("oh you want it a special way? Ok, what do you want?"..."medium" ..it came well done). It came on a croissant bun that was toasted, but rock hard and not edible. My salad was ok, but not a great presentation and on the smaller side. The kids received a dessert with meals (pretty awesome), they came out after they had 2 bites of their food, worst timing ever. Of course my kids didn't want to eat their dinner. We did arrive early around 4:30, but in the hour and a half we were there, not a single person came in. It appears they were planning for a party. My young son even asked why we were the only tabe-odd apparently they don't get a dinner crowd.
