First off, they have no parking on one side of the restaurant. So we parked on the parking lot side of the building which also has a door facing it. I opened the door to find myself looking directly into the restaurant kitchen, and quickly figured out it must be an employee entrance, despite no labeling of the door to state such a simple fact.
On entering (through the other door), no obvious menu board was present. Nonetheless, we ordered two slices each, plus two sodas. We were served our sodas while awaiting our slices, and turned around to pick a seat, only to find no clean tables. So upon getting our slices, we chose the "least dirty" spot we could find, and sat down to eat.
The pizza itself was mostly what's to be expected from a Tony's Pizza around here, which is to say it has a crust somewhere between traditional NY style thin crust pizza, and what many may know as Sicilian pizza. It was chewy, and the dough was decent, it could have used a bit more cheese, and the sauce was just ok. The problem at this Tony's was that the bottom of the crust, and the top of the cheese were both somewhat burned.
While eating, I distinctly overheard employees speaking about Tinder, and making lewd comments about a pair of young women who had just left after we sat down.
We didn't have time to get different slices, but by this time, we just wanted to be done and gone.
There's a lot of pizza places in Rome, even most likely other Tony's, don't waste your time...
Read moreIt's definitely a...dump on the inside. Ordered a large pizza with three toppings. We've had extra-cheese, at other locations. Tony's seems to be very insufficient with the extra cheese. Best-to-order extra-extra cheese. Asked for pepperoni, and received two slices of pepperoni, per-slice of pizza. Other locations tend to have four or more slices of pepperoni per slice. The dough, seemed to be rather on the "barely cooked," side. Doughy & rubbery. Definitely not the best Rome, NY has to offer. Just a convenient restaurant in a poor section of Rome, NY for people to get take-out, without having to go directly into the city or other locations. The first-time, is always the most memorable. There exists better places...
Read more1st of all I don’t know any employees or The owner of this place nor was I asked to place this rating. I work locally at Rome Memorial Hospital and get pizza from there from time time to time. I have to say that their pizza is the best I’ve ever had, my favorite being double cheese, pepperoni and mushrooms. I would eat it everyday if I could from there but being an RN, I know that that’s not a healthy life style for anyone. I just want to thank the people of this establishment for having such great food and at a fair price, only stipulation is they take cash only but it’s in no way an inconvenience for me as it is worth running to the bank to get cash. I truly and highly recommend Tony’s on Jay...
