My husband and I, visiting Syracuse from Michigan, chose 317 @ Montgomery for a date night, seeking quality food and a pleasant environment. After extensive research, this restaurant stood out.
We arrived early for our 7 PM reservation, finding easy street parking on the charming, clean historical street, with a lot nearby as well.
Upon entering, we were warmly greeted by our server, Mike, whose professionalism and attentiveness impressed us throughout the evening. His prompt, kind, and humorous service added greatly to our experience.
The food was exceptional. We started with the Creamy Dip with Lump Crab, Roasted Corn, and Artichoke Hearts, served with perfectly toasted Naan. The smoky crab and sweet corn complemented the creamy sauce and artichoke hearts beautifully. Our salads—Crispy Romaine and House Salad—were outstanding, featuring mixed greens with a house-made Tarragon Vinaigrette, creamy goat cheese, fresh shredded carrots, and Nutmeg-Dusted Baked Pear, which made for one of the best salads we've ever had.
For the main course, we both opted for the 12oz ribeye, grilled to perfection and accompanied by Crispy Smashed Potatoes and Roasted, Sweet, and Spicy Heirloom Carrots. My husband chose Rosemary Demi-glace, while I had the Creamy Peppercorn Sauce. The peppercorn sauce added just the right amount of spice without overpowering the grilled meat’s flavor. The potatoes were crispy on the outside and soft inside, and the carrots were tender with superb texture. Everything was seasoned flawlessly, and the presentation was as impressive as the taste.
For dessert, we had Lemon Raspberry Cake with a coconut crust, light and fluffy, and it paired perfectly with the excellent coffee we enjoyed.
A highlight of the evening was when Joel, the owner, came out to personally ask about our meal. His kindness, passion for the restaurant, and knowledge, including insights into the building’s history, made the experience even more memorable. Mike also gave us a tour of the restaurant, which retains its late 1800s charm with unique ceilings, partial brick walls, and wooden floors. The ambiance was romantic and peaceful, with soft lighting, comfortable climate, and tasteful decor. The floor-to-ceiling windows offered a beautiful sunset view.
Overall, it was one of our best date nights, featuring outstanding food, service, and atmosphere. If you're seeking an exceptional meal in a unique, timeless setting, 317 @ Montgomery is a must-visit. We’re eagerly anticipating...
Read moreNormally when you have a multi-course meal at a restaurant, the experience has its ups and downs. Not so when we recently visited 317 @ Montgomery Street where we enjoyed everything we were served. My wife and I began our meal by sharing a Caesar salad and two appetizers. The dressing on the salad was a little different in that it emphasized a lemon flavor over the usual garlic and anchovy notes. Combined with crisp romaine lettuce, it provided a refreshing start to our meal. This was followed by delicious shredded duck tacos and beef bulgogi egg rolls, both accompanied by flavorful sauces. However, the high point of the meal was short ribs over mushroom risotto for our entrees. I'm a fan of mushroom risotto and this is the best I've ever had in a restaurant. It was in the brothy style, which I prefer, and it had deep mushroom and beef flavors with perfectly cooked arborio rice. The bones had been removed from the short ribs and the tender lean meat placed on top of the risotto. The pairing of the two provided a richly-flavored, delicious meal. The waitress told us that it was their most popular dish and we can certainly understand why. For dessert we shared a flourless chocolate cake with raspberry sauce. It came with a pleasant surprise, that being the taste of chili peppers which elevated the dessert to something special. We intend to return soon. POST PANDEMIC UPDATE-1: The management has changed since we were here last and, unfortunately, the food has lost something. The short ribs with mushroom risotto had deliciously flavored tender meat but the risotto had a strong greasy aftertaste. The desserts are now obtained from a local bakery, and are quite good but not as exceptional as they were previously. Lowered my rating...
Read moreThis place is where it’s at! Yesterday my mom and I had the pleasure of dining at 317 and we were not disappointed. Our waitress, Sarah, was incredible. Her knowledge and suggestions were amazing while her hospitality was unbeatable. We started off with a speciality house salad and a Caesar salad. We both loved our salads and the house made apple cider vinegar honey vinaigrette. For appetizers, we shared the seared scallops and the duck confit poutine. The seared scallops were done beautifully and were delicious with their caper honey sauce and chopped dill. The poutine is absolutely to die for. Crispy fries, a delectable demi-glacé with whole springs of rosemary, creamy cheese curds, and lovely shredded duck confit. Whether you’re stopping in at the bar or coming in for a dinner reservation, you can’t go wrong with the poutine. The star of our night was the short rib and mushroom risotto. The short rib was beautifully seared and so tender that a spoon could cut it. The mushroom risotto was delicious with the slices of mushroom, grated cheese, and a touch of wine. The risotto itself was cooked perfectly, not starchy or undercooked. Our night didn’t end there however. We took the carrot cake and the flourless chocolate torte to go and enjoyed the desserts when we arrived home. The cream cheese frosting of the carrot cake was tasty and the flourless chocolate torte was the perfect balance and portion of airy whipped cream and fluffy chocolate torte with a little caramel on the side. This meal was probably the best meal that we have enjoyed since before covid. We will most definitely be back to try more of the menu. The atmosphere, food, and hospitality blew us completely out of the water. Thank you for such an...
