Quality product , poor staff (or more likely staffing) If you're in a hurry stay away
I work downtown and am a morning coffee drinker who goes before work. If you're a daily coffee drinker like me just looking for a cup of joe its probably better you just go to starbucks nearby or even a convenience store where you will get fast, easy service. I like the coffee but its not worth the wait or the rude employees.
It pains me to write this as I've gone to CK many many times over the last 3 years while working downtown and some of their staff is marvelous, friendly, and hard working and most likely underpaid as they do not seem to stay.
Unfortunately it seems to be luck of the draw based on who is staffed as the more tenured employees can handle the workload and customer service while the newer staff cannot seem to keep up or even bother caring.
I drink regular degular coffee you pour in to a cup and my transactions usually take less than 30 seconds and are usually before I go to work.
At least half a dozen times I've walked in and the place is almost empty yet the serving person on hand does not say a word to me or even offer a simple "I'll be right with you" to acknowledge they even know I am there.
They will slowly attend to whatever they were doing before I walked in and ignore me while I stand at the counter like a dope for minutes.
Today I waited for 5 minutes alone at the counter while the serving person prepared a coffee for someone else , never saying a word to me until I finally left. If this was the first time this happened I could let it slide but it really irritated me and again ... has happened at least half a dozen times but never this long. I know she saw me but for some reason I was not a priority for her.
I suspect this is a staffing issue as I never had this problem at the...
Read moreI just want to mention that I went into the S. Salina restaurant on Monday 1/31 and asked if that was a brownie and the lady said yea, so I said, ok I’ll take one. Later on when I was home and went to eat it, well when I bit into it, it wasn’t what I thought was a brownie. It was like a brownie looking shell and some stuff came oozing out of it like one of those cakes with the chocolate running out of it. I stopped back in the store the name day and spoke with the lady about it and she said, that’s because it was a gluten free vegan brownie and I was like, don’t you think you should have informed the customer of that in case they had allergies to something or in case they didn’t want that and I think that was wrong of you to do that. She was like, well, what do you want me to do about it and I was in shock with that response. Like wow! How unprofessional of her. I told her that she is suppose to inform customers of things like that. I’ve been in food service for 50 years and I’m a manager and she was very unprofessional in handling that. One other thing, I all so spoke to someone about the plastic wear out and that it should be upside down and not sticking up like that because a customer should be grabbing the part that you’re going to eat from, the should be grabbing the handle. Anything that is going to be used and/or served out of should be...
Read moreCafé Kubal is an amazing establishment! This location has a very hip and modern style to it. The open floor plan and tall windows allows a lot of natural light in. A window seat while you enjoy food or drink is not hard to get which is what I prefer. There are larger tables for group seating and more comfortable couches if you like that comfort level too. Today I had the pleasure of eating The Upstate Grinder which consists of : turkey, bacon, cheddar cheese, apples, & maple mayo on ciabatta bread, and oh my was it AWESOME! The cheese was melted perfectly and all the flavors combined so well. I topped it off with a 4oz Eastwood that's simply equal parts espresso and steamed milk, but with unsweetened cocoa. Wow wow was that great too! Last but not least the service. The fella and two women that work this location are spot on with your order whether they are working with just a couple orders or a long line. They held great conversation while perfecting their crafts. Love this spot and I'll always revisit.
UPDATE: 10/2/24 Cafe Kubal is STILL AMAZING!!!! My Roastie sandwich with Toffee Nut Latte was A Maz Ing!!! The banana nut bread and French Toast Latte was as well!!! Well done folks....
