Went to Faegan's for a celebratory dinner last night. We had attempted a couple of other times over the past year or two, but have found their hours do not always align with what is posted on their website. Needless to say our expectations were high based on our last visit, but the outcome was less than mediocre.
Best guess is they are either under new ownership or management because the menu has been scaled down to a meager pub menu with simply one or two items even resembling Irish fare.
The experience started out well... immediately greeted and seated. Our waitress quickly came over took our drink orders (after checking to see if they had Sam Adams Cold Snap on draft which unfortunately they did not). The beer menu offered a wide variety of choices (even without the Cold Snap)- thus the reason we are giving it one star versus no stars.
We had a few questions regarding the menu since their go to Reuben was no longer available- there was on the menu a slight variation, but not traditional so my wife settled on a "special" that was sort of a step sister to a traditional Reuben. I ordered the fish and chips (more chips then fish). The restaurant/pub/cafe was sparsely occupied- at times three to four tables ordering.
I finished my beer before the dinner was served and was asked by the waitress if I would like another. I requested that the second beer be served with dinner. That is where the experience started to go south...
Our orders came out in a timely fashion and delightfully so were hot! The only problem was is they were brought by another waitress/server (which we are aware is common practice), but there is usually some type of follow-up by the primary waitress. She did offer a very quick drive by asking how the meal was approximately 60 seconds after the arrival and then we NEVER spoke with her until she eventually stopped to ask if there was anything we needed 20-25 minutes later.
We did witness her breaking down tables and filling water bottles for diners that may be coming in later- but we were one her two tables and she totally disappeared.
The service was so bad we eventually had to ask the other waitress/server if she could take our payment because we sat there for what seems like an eternity trying to buy for overpriced food ($5.00 for very small portion of sweet potato fries) and two tiny pieces of fish sitting on a bed of french fries ($15.00).
We literally sat and were looking for justification on leaving a tip that was worthy of the service. We are usually an automatic 20% or higher if you show any interest in our business. This server clearly did not.
Perhaps we will try again during a game day where we can focus on their beer offerings and not worry about the food.
Very sad considering the spectrum of the food menu and the service since our last visit. We hope that someone...
Read moreFirst and foremost, this is a college bar. Average food, mediocre service. If you come after 10pm to get a drink, there is ALWAYS a cover- even if there is no entertainment, even if you’re over 21. Flip night is a JOKE. I paid a $5 cover, the bartender never showed me the coin, just told me I lost. I wouldn’t care, but the end result was I paid $10 for a $3 beer. Never went back. Will never go back. This place is more of a scam than a business. But stupid college kids can’t get enough, so this place must make money hand over fist on their willingness to chuck cash to the wind for...
Read moreThey have the absolute WORST service in town: the bartenders (all men) are rude, macho and make drinks with their feet (you'll see when you're there, if you decide to go even after reading the reviews). The managers of the place know it, the customers know it, it's like a culture that the place has of being rude and that's it. I had to wait 40 minutes to be charged for a beer and only got it because a man, who came to the bar 20 minutes after me, ordered it for me (I paid for it and the bartender didn't even want to accept the card off my hand). I drank my $10...
