Cute little neighborhood bar - serving great food. Since the start of the pandemic my husband and I have twice weekly been picking up or eating in meals from area restaurants. We try to pick a place we have never eaten before. Intrigued by the name and a menu that looked good, tonight we went to Gene's. Most reviews raved about the fish fry, only available on Friday. My husband got the corned beef on rye toasted. And said it was delicious. I had the roast beef on Kimmelweck - meat tender and tasty. A little disappointed it was not hot. We also had French fries - I believe made fresh - very tasty, and onion rings, the best I've had in some time. Our wait person was Karen - pleasant, efficient and busy as she was taking care of the dining room as well as approximately 10 people at the bar. We were not disappointed and will definitely be back...
Read moreWent for a fish fry as we have done for many years. The fish fry was great as usual but the prices were a little high. I can live with a $10.95 fish fry but to charge $2.75 for a pop is ridiculous. What could it cost $.25? And the price for a cup of coffee was also outrageous. I was surprised to see so few tables occupied when we arrived. We arrived on a Friday night at 5:20 PM and only 3 tables were occupied, only one couple came in while we were there and only one other table was occupied when we finished. I don't know if there was a change in ownership or just increased prices that drove people away but the place was always packed on a Friday night in the past, thus the reason we got there so early. I hope that they will be able to stay in business. I got a gift certificate for Christmas and am glad we decided...
Read moreGood food in a nice friendly place. Been here two times now, once for Fish Friday takeout and once for sit down on wing night. Fish fry was good and wings where good as well. I also had the Reuben sandwich with side of fries and homemade pizza logs. At almost $11 for the Reuben the price is probably a little more then it should be. $2 upcharge for fires is a little much as well for the amount you get. I would suggest maybe $11 for both would be the right price. The homemade pizza logs where good but could have used another 30 sec to min in the fryer to be their best. Overall nice place and decent food - we'll be back. As others have said parking is tight so at busy times your on the street and walking down some ways...
