Came across Swiston's after seeing beef on weck featured on some food travel show and googling "best beef on weck Buffalo". Had some business to take care of in the area one day and decided to slightly deviate from my route to stop and try the legendary sandwich. Showed up right around when they opened and was greeted by a friendly lady at the bar. I loaded up on the free popcorn (nice touch; super tasty) and some ice cold Coke and decided to sit in the section overlooking the river. The setting made me very nostalgic for my childhood (90's kid) and felt great. A far cry from a fine dining experience, but perfect nonetheless. I ordered the beef on weck with a side of fries, as well as some wings. The beef on weck was just not happening for me, sorry. The beef itself was quite dry and lacking any semblance of flavour- absolutely no seasoning. Extremely bland. I tried to remedy it with the horseradish and that red/orange sauce, but even that didn't help the cause any. Was very underwhelmed with it... but!!! The wings!!! Oh buddy, the wings!!! Being from Toronto, Anchor and Duff's are all you hear about... let me tell you, the wings here at Swiston's leave those places in the dust. Beautiful big wings cooked to crispy perfection and seasoned just right. Drooling just thinking back to how good they were. Fries were great too. I will go back for the friendly service, nostalgia factor, and not least, those heavenly wings... Swiston's, you're good people,...

Perfect for a "bar rescue"- a once busy and popular spot is showing its age. Tired food, tired infrastructure, lackluster experience. We visited on a Friday night around 7:00pm, some folks seated at the bar but the dining room was empty. Prompt and friendly service were very welcome, but the food did not back them up. (We ordered two beef on weck, one with fries) When I asked the waitress about the quality of fries she said they were hand cut, but "not the crispiest". She surely was not wrong, however the fries were not to blame. I would say they needed another 5-7 minutes of cooking, or a hotter oil- but in either case we were presented with a very limp, sad fry. The beef on wecks tasted fine; not the warmest by any means but did have a nice taste. I think the texture would be improved if the meat was cut fresh to order, and not pre-cut and waiting in a hot tray holding container.
Not a bad experience by any means, but I would have no reason...
Read moreNever thought it would come to this the place is now being run by the bartenders, last few times i've been there bartender standing around, don't do their job. The place doesn't even have any type of sugar substitute. Last experience. Did it male bartender worked there for a while thinks he owns the place. I took our food order. Forgot to put it in. We're in 45 minutes. Then asked if we ordered food? Because you forgot it is that an attitude. Against me, so I told him off, and we left, and this isn't the first time we've had problems there. 30 year customer, I've been through the good and the bad I think you should learn how to manage you. R restaurant before it falls in the river. As well, yeah, and the girl that keeps the jukebox off full blast all the time too. There's other places and better places to eat. Now, I wish you the best. I had more time. I'd write a letter to management but it would probably get read by one of the employee...
