Been to Johnny D's a total of three times after experiencing their excellent catering at a food and wine pairing. Food is excellent, if they still have them start with either the reuben skins or eggplant fries, you can't go wrong. Prime rib was a standout, and a sandwich I had at lunch was great, I remember the bread being particularly good. They get some of their desserts from a local bakery about 30 yards away which is both neat and extremely tasty. I'd try anything on the menu and be pretty confident that it will be pretty darn good.
The restaurant itself is VERY small, which is really part of the appeal to me as it is extremely cozy. If you could round up 20-30 friends or colleagues you would fill the place right up. The bar is old school and really classy, not a bad place to sit for lunch if that is your thing. Shadowbox tables and rustic/retro stuff on the walls make it interesting without being tacky.
Service is fantastic, I've never been there when it is really busy (although it deserves to be) but the staff is great. All is family run, and everyone is extremely friendly. Attentive staff who knows their stuff and will make great suggestions. If you are there near closing you might see them sharing a family dinner which is always a great sign, you know the food...
Read moreWow, this is a six / five star venue. It is family owned & run. For our meal, the mother cooked & the daughter host, wait & bussed. My wife got the chicken florentine (scratch homemade & really good) and the Turkey Reuben. I got the breaded califlower and the 1lb burger with sweet potatoe fries. It was all great. Our waitress treated us the respect & warmth as if she own the place, because she does own it with her family. The drinks & plates came to us really fast, even though they were busy.
There is a small bar with wine, liquor & 4 beer taps.
This is a small venue INSIDE the Paddock Arcade, the oldest mall in America!! It is a challenge to find this resteraunt, but...
Read moreBasic and sad. Food we had ordered was meh at best. Most of it you can tell is from restaurant depot delivery food services like Sysco. What they consider Irish nachos are an embarrassment to their namesake as you get once fried slices of soggy potatoes, barely sprinkled with salt and accompanied by canned gravy in a silo sauce cup. The gyro is your typical build with a yogurt drizzle, not tzatziki. Jalapeno poppers were a disgraceful prefrozen food item reheated and upcharged. The price paid made us feel obligated to finish the meal, but ashamed to even say we had paid so...
