My family and I have been going to Gino's for over 25 years now. When I was a kid in the 80's my parents used to alternate between Pizza Barn and Gino's depending on whoever was least busy. But when the owner of Pizza Barn disappeared (it turns out he passed away). We solely went to Gino's because unfortunately Pizza Barn's pizza took a nosedive in quality.
While growing up in my teens and during my high school years in the early 90's, my ex-gf and I used to stop by and hang out at Gino's. When they weren't too busy I would just chill and speak with Gino's son (Joe) and nephew about video games. They're cool guys when you got to know them. I even ordered 6 pizza pies for a party when I lived out in Cali and had them overnight'd to me.
I've tried out pizza all over the country - Seattle, deep dish in Chicago, Bronx Pizza in San Diego (yes there's a place called Bronx Pizza in San Diego), Mamma's Brick Oven Pizza in Pasadena, etc... and Gino's is by far the best I've ever had anywhere. I've even tried Nick's in the Bronx back in the day and I'll admit they were real good. But Gino's hands down is my favorite. I try to explain this to my kids now...that they should feel blessed and lucky that they have access to enjoy great pizza, but they have no clue. One day...
