I’m writing this review because I wish I had this level of insight before taking my wife on what was supposed to be a lovely, chill afternoon. The short of it is simple: This establishment did NOTHING right from the moment we walked through the doors.
At every turn and opportunity to elevate our experience, we were further disappointed. I walk in with my wife and we’re seated by what I thought was a hostess who said we can sit anywhere. He gave us menus and after 7 minutes passed and no one acknowledged us, we had to flag someone to place our order and request water. I had plenty of time to be distracted by the cob web with flies in it located in the corner by our table. We ordered carne tacos, loaded nachos, street corn, and a pitcher of red sangria.
Nachos were nothing to write home about; tacos = bland; corn = chewy; and the sangria was the worst offender. I expect that if I down 75% of a pitcher of red sangria by myself in 15 minutes, that will put me on my ass. Immediately I could tell is was severely watered down with enough ice to fill several drinking glasses. That pitcher was full of empty carbs #Disgraceful. After touch and go service, finally we asked for the check.
A gentleman I presumed was a manager came over to our table to ask joyously about our experience. I started by telling him the sangria was pitifully weak, but he misheard me and assumed I was complimenting the sangria, so his face lite up. I corrected him and told him it was one of the worst I’ve ever had because of how watered down and weak it was. He said it’s not problem, just let him know next time and he can add more alcohol to it. My wife seized that opening to share feedback of the lackluster service to which he simply said sorry. Perhaps the most egregious part of the experience was the 18% gratuity automatically added to the bill. When I requested the gratuity be removed so I could manually add the tip amount, the server told me that can’t do that. Say less. From that moment I knew I would share my unfiltered experience: A waste of money, a waste of time, and an all-around terrible dining experience.
This place is only a vibe because of the views and proximity to the waterfront. We all work hard for our money and when you go out to eat, the expectation is that from the food to the servers, the establishment will seek to provide an atmosphere that entertains and satisfies. Instead, I couldn't wait to get out of there and go somewhere else in the area where they know how to treat their clients. Going here was a massive mistake that cost me...
Read moreLike so many others said, this place has so much potential but needs management to step up their game.
After being seated, we were overlooked by several servers. You can tell they don’t have designated serving sections so they either miss you or come at you one after the other.
We ordered a mojito and margarita. We watched other customers, who came much later, get their orders before us. After about 20-30 minutes, the mojito came out brown with withered mint leaves and the margarita was extremely stale and didn’t have salt on the rim. We couldn’t take more than two sips of the mixed drinks, but I was so embarrassed, I only asked to return the mojito.
We ordered some empanadas too, but after awhile the server came out saying that they didn’t have any. Then awhile later a sad runner came out with two big puffy portions. It was very confusing. When we bit into the empanadas, they deflated: they were practically empty and the dough tasted stale.
The bathrooms were very messy… I wont go into the details but I’ll say I had to give the seat a good cleaning because I knew there was a woman coming in to use it after.
When the check arrived, I still saw the mojito on it… I refused to pay for it. She said she would take off the charge for one Corona, which is definitely not the same price as a cocktail. I told her that won’t work so eventually she took off the mojito. I felt really bad for her because I worked as a waiter and I know it stinks to have that kind of experience. I hold the management accountable for this extremely disappointing experience.
My advice for customers: don’t go there unless you just want a bottled beer, you don’t mind waiting or cleaning toilet seats.
My suggestion to management: divide and conquer. There’s no reason tables should be overlooked then swarmed with three different waiters. Keep the bathroom clean. Make fresh drinks. Quality control your menu. If you do all that, I think you have the perfect place for a...
Read moreGreat Service! Location is great, super chill right by the water. Nice view of the city in the distance and modern decor. Drinks were pretty good. We had the frozen piña colada and watermelon mojito. The food was a hit or a miss which is why I gave it 4 stars. We tried 3 tacos and these are our favorites in order best to worst. Shrimp, Porky, Chicken. I would not order the chicken one again, it lacked flavor. The pork one was a bit too greasy for me but still okay. Shrimp was pretty good, interesting twist with the fried wonton.
We had the Nachos which was very tasty, the chips are yummy. The chips came with the meatballs as well which made the dish for me personally, the cheese on the meatballs was tasty but the whole thing was a bit greasy.
Another thing I didn’t like is the plates they use to serve and the poor quality of napkins, I went through 15 or so napkins. I know this spot is new so they’re just getting situated but I would definitely upgrade the plates and forks to real ones not plastic disposable ones, cheapens the experience. At this point they don’t need to use disposable forks and plates for the sake of covid safety like some places did months ago.
I would recommend to go with the shrimp tacos and the Nachos with beef.
The best part of TaqueRio is the overall experience with the view and friendly service, I wouldn’t say the tacos...
