We went with regular style for lunch on a Wednesday afternoon instead of looking for specialty-type places...and he chose the Silver Spoon. What did I expect? The typical breakfast-all-day, burger joint, slash yes-we-have-a-deep-fryer and maybe a few old school standbys like liver or chicken croquettes. What did I get? That and so much more! I don't frequent diners because they usually have limited menus, and sometimes the quality isn't the best. But I don't think I've ever seen such an extensive range of choices at a diner before, plus the price is right, and overall everything was pretty tasty, so here it's safe to say that I can't lump them in the same category with "all other diners." Yep, you can get your eggs and all the early morning craves, but besides that... crab cakes, pastas, gyros, grape leaves, salads, soups and dinners... I think I can say that there is literally something for everyone. He got the cheesesteak flatbread, which came with fries and a cup of soup, he practically cleared the plate, so he enjoyed. I took the soup off his hands because he wasn't interested, the chicken and rice was solid. Not greasy, not too watery, and enough ingredients so you know what you're eating. I borrowed a fry, also good. I ordered the boneless wings with the sweet sauce instead of hot (only 2 choices, but I would never expect 22 sauces from a place with so much going on as far as food). The chicken had a pretty thick breading, which I'm not usually a fan of, but it works here. Pieces were uniform, all cooked nicely, no mini chunks that got overcooked or tough. The sauce was a nice sticky barbecue type with a hint of smoke, came with blue cheese dressing (a little thin but ok), and a generous portion of celery. They were cut fresh, nice long pieces. You can tell if a place cheats when they cut celery and it is stored in cold water too long, because it will start to curl up, but not here. Unlike so many other places that toss you a paper lined plastic basket that just looks, well, sloppy, the plate they used was even attractive. The right choice! So with all that down, I saved room for cheesecake, that display was calling me! I went with the strawberry just to keep it simple. I honestly didn't enjoy the topping much, because it is the gel type that's too artificial. I can't tell you the last time I consumed that much red#40. But I did like the cheesecake itself, nice, firm, and tasty, although it leans toward the more "cakey" end of the scale and a little less rich, if you know what I mean. Give an eyeball to that one next to it in the display covered in peanut butter cups... I'd certainly try that also! I'd be happy to stop back anytime and try more here. And lastly...cleanliness, check. Ample parking, check. Great...
Read moreEver have one of those days? This was it and I wouldn't have written anything and gave the benefit of the doubt but,...
I arrived with kids in tow and the kids were fantastic and hungry. We left annoyed and children crying.
"Hi! It's our first time here." The hostess brought us to our table and left. Nothing to drink, we weren't even asked. And if we knew we would be on our own for fifteen minutes, I could have given the kids some quarters or some some kind of activity in our wait.
With a whopping four tables occupied on our arrival we thought this would be easy. It's lunch time, just after 12pm. Nope.
Our hostess and waitress were occupied with five teen friends eating at the counter and couldn't be bothered until the waitress remembered she worked there. The waitress took out order. Twice.
As our drinks did finally arrive, 28 minutes after our arrival, the children inhaled their drinks before the waitress could walk away. Apparently there are no refills.
You can't get a refill if there is no waitress either. It might have been her last act on this planet as we never saw her again. The kids and I hope she found her way home safe. We'll never know.
The toddler ended up with two chicken fillets instead of the chicken fingers, both of which could not be cut with any traditional knife. The freezer-burnt, deep-fried leather would have to wait as the French fries were devoured in seconds. The other meals were fair at best. The most expensive meal at the table was a labor as the sandwich bread disintegrated in a mushy goo.
It looked promising upon arrival, but we will abandon hope should we find ourselves racked with starvation.
Clean enough, but service gets all the awards for all the...
Read moreThis was our first time at the silver spoon diner despite living only about a half hour away. Our schedule just happened to find us needing breakfast out today and so we hopped in here to see if we would like it.
The menu was pretty extensive and we liked the fact that they serve breakfast all day! They have a senior menu, but I did not see any breakfast items on it unfortunately.
My breakfast was two eggs, hash browns and rye toast with coffee. We were asked if we'd like a real refill on the coffee and it was pretty good. My husband got the Philly steak omelette, hash browns and rye toast.
Unfortunately, both of us had a huge complaint. Both of our meals were pretty darn lukewarm. We couldn't understand it because the food came out pretty quickly. We are not complainers so we did not mention it. I suspect if we did that we would have been offered a replacement. Or just did not have the time for that anyway. I suspect the food was ready quickly and our waitress might not have picked it up quickly. I really don't know that for sure but that's our best guess.
Other than that I think it's a very nice place. They have some yummy looking desserts in the case, although not as many as I've seen in other, similar diners.
It looks like the interior has been updated and I think it's very presentable and a very nice atmosphere. The staff were all...
