I went to State Street Grill about a year ago with my family to celebrate my sister’s birthday, and we had a great time. I decided to pick this spot again to celebrate my own birthday this year - 6 adults and one 2 year old in our party. We had no issue getting a reservation, and we were seated immediately when we arrived.
I want to preface by saying that our server was only doing her best, and we all felt really badly that she had to face the brunt of what happened next. We ordered a round of drinks and one appetizer (potato chips). The drinks came out relatively quickly, but the chips, along with the rest of our food, were nowhere to be found after over 1.5 hours of waiting.
When a few of our apps finally came out, we were served a French onion soup that looked like the cheese had been burnt and then removed from the top of the bowl.
At this point, we didn’t want to order another bowl of soup because we had been waiting for so long. It’s after 8:30 and my 2 year old niece needs to get home to go to bed. We ask for our food to be boxed, and before they bring us any food, we are given the check without any compensation for the awful experience we had.
I was most disappointed that the manager couldn’t even come out to explain the reason for the poor service. Our poor server looked so upset, and we all knew it wasn’t her fault that all of this happened.
We did end up getting some of our bill comped, which we felt was the least that the restaurant could do. Needless to say, it was a memorable birthday dinner for all the wrong reasons. It will probably take a lot for me to want to come back again because of what happened, which is a shame.
I normally don’t write reviews, but I wrote this one because I want the manager to know that a little would have gone a long way in this situation. It may not have sped up the service, but my family would at least have known that someone cared about...
Read moreThe service single handedly killed the experience for this dinner visit. I would give no stars if I could.
2 couples for dinner 6pm on a Friday. 2 ordered Flat Iron Steak 1 ordered Ribeye (From the Range item on the menu) 1 Burger with fries
They were not busy when we arrived. The waitress took a long time to bring drinks. She took a long time to come back to take our food orders. Our food took forever to come out. But worst of all; our food was brought out by some other wait staff and they didn't make sure we had everything or ask if we needed anything else. Our waitress never came back to the table to check on drinks or anything until LONG after our plates were empty. We were allowed one drink per person, no refills the whole time.
For the food; the Flat Iron Steak dinners were pretty good and cooked properly to medium-rare. The Ribeye was the thinnest ribeye we've seen and it was ordered medium-rare and was very done (aka overdone and dry.) The burger looked good but was flavorless. It was ordered medium-well and was over cooked. They didn't even have any sauces other than ketchup and Dijon mustard (which was not normal Dijon, it had horseradish) available.
After we were done eating we sat and waited, and waited, for our waitress to come back to ask for our checks. She came back with one and we asked if it could be split. She responded with "you didn't ask for that". The glare from her was insane. She came back plopped them down and when asked to wait for our cards huffed. Even though they were out and ready to go. When she came back with our paid receipts for signature she set them down and walked off quickly. One of the cards was MISSING and the waitress was nowhere to be found. The card was found dropped on the walkway from the...
Read moreYesterday was my first experience at State Street Grill. It's a lovely place from the inside out with a sophisticated style and very intimate seating for customers. The prices range from $3.95 for salads to less than $20 throughout the Dinner menu but you're definitely getting a bang for your buck. The Risotto Rounds (panko crusted risotto balls, shaved parmesan, resting in a pool of tomato artichoke soup) for $6.95 were absolutely delicious. A nice crispiness on the outside and evenly cooked ingredients on the inside. The soup complimented the parmesan well and I'm not even a fan of tomatoes but I'd definitely eat this again. I also ordered the Fig Flat Bread at $10.95 (rosemary fig jam, honey cream, caramelized onion, sliced green apple, sprinkled with spiced walnuts, chunks of creamy gorgonzola, fresh arugula, and topped with thinly slice prosciutto). Not only was this the best flatbread I've come across, but I'm a true believer now. Ale Mary's in downtown Scranton is no longer my favorite place for flat breads! Everything was baked nicely into the bread with finishes on top and every bite had a pop. I will definitely be a returning customer. The waitress Maria made the experience even better. She was very attentive, very knowledgeable on the menu and could make quick recommendations. [All lists of ingredients were in reference to the online menu. I couldn't remember everything off the top of...
