CUSTOMERS BEWARE: This place is the BEST If you just want to eat TOO much RICE!....... If you want better service and sushi... go to the all you can eat Simply Sushi! (in SLC) (Yes, I've been to both) Let me tell you a few things....
My BACKGROUND: I am a social eater, as in I like to eat and lots. Not just that I eat a lot of different places around the world. I've even traveled to Asia time and time again and traveled from the east coast to the west coast (literally) here in the USA. I eat sushi a lot, from low to high end, and I can compare this with others. I've eaten at a lot of sushi places.
The food and SERVICE: Its a hit and miss with good/bad service. The lady (possibly worked there a while) we had wasn't very nice and looked/sounded irritable there were others who came in-between were very nice (only worked there a few months or so (I asked) and even tried to help sooth my children when water spilt on them. We came during a non rush time (2pm, after the lunch rush).
Some of the waitresses needed to slap a smile on their face really, most of them needed it. I am generally a friendly, tolerable guy, but there needed to be some serious help there.
The first main waitress (probably with the most experience) kept telling me (sounded irritated and angry) that I had to make sure I "eat all the rice, all the rice, all the rice".... probably because i ordered a good portion like I always do when I've gone to these sort of places but this is the first time they have told me that really. No wonder they did, they fed me RICE, not sushi! I really should have returned and left, but coming in late for the day, my party/group was hungry. So we continued.
All in all, yes the other reviews were right about bad service, and hopfully with their new hires the old ones will leave and the new ones (who I thought were very helpful, considerate, and nice) would move up and take over. maybe later the serivice will fix itself, check back later if you live close.
The SUSHI: Yes, they have Eel, yes, they have tempura as a side dish, nigiri, rolls. They make it look nice but once the plate came out you can tell they over riced those suckers. They mountain or tripled the amount of rice it's supposed to have, so they look like sushi on rice STEROIDS. Maybe they put chemicals in them, I don't know but I have an upset stomach with whatever they put in the rice and fish. (we ordered a variety of things and have in the past).
We ordered both styles of sushi from their menu. Both of which tasted bland/tasteless (yes, even with soy sauce, ginger, and anything else they tried to add). The rice had a funny taste to it (I've eaten rice a lot). The meat/fish was ok. Maybe the bar where they make it in front of you is better.
The PRICE: $15 for lunch and over $20 for dinner.
Other THOUGHTS: Some may say that this is the best in town, don't go, not worth it. I recommend taking a little more time in driving and going to some in SLC.
Yes not all are are great but better than this. This has been the worst sushi place even for a buffet i've been to IN MY LIFE. And I've eaten at a lot of places. Sure there are worse i'm sure but at least take this warning and take your money and spend it at a better location, with better food, service, and time.
I wish I can get my money back but i'm not that sort of person but this experience allots and needs to be given this review....
IMHO, I ate their food, experienced their service and will never return to that horrid place. I don't write many reviews.... I have not been paid to write this review, nor am I working at another competitive company, just another regular...
Read moreI've now been there twice once on a Friday and once on a Saturday. First experience: no table for 15 minutes no greeting either saying how long the wait would be but we were pretty hungry so just decided to wait, finally got the table after waiting about 20 minutes, we got Waters soon but he didn't understand what we wanted as far as food and the food took a really long time half hour. my husband got some sushi rolls, vegetable tempura app, and I got the vegetable tempura roll, and vegetable fried noodles. the food was good but later that night I got sick. second experience: we didn't wait as long for the table and got water shortly after, then it went back to slow as hell service. my friend and I ordered a glass of wine each and it seriously took 15 minutes to get to us. generous portions of wine though. then I noticed the other tables that came in after us got service before us. we had two hungry toddlers so I found that incredibly rude. I really felt straight up ignored maybe because we had kids idk. so then I finally flag down our waitress and she takes our order then after another 20 minutes our kids food came out wrong. we told her fried noodles for the kids 5-8 times and I saw her write it down and it still comes out wrong. Then our sushi comes out and our kids have to wait another 20 minutes for their food. Ridiculous. I got the same thing as the first time it was good. My friend got the mountain and snow ball rolls along with the noodles we both shared with the kids. the noodles were just ok. and again I got sick that night so now I know it's for sure their food. anyways definitely NOT going back there ever again and I wouldn't suggest anyone going there and especially if you have kids. anyone with toddlers around dinner time should know they can only wait for so long and an hour up is too long and they were perfect little angels while they waited because they screwed it up. the kids should have eaten first. they got one star because the food was decent the first time and our kids like the fishes...
Read moreThis rating isn’t related to the food because we never got any. We arrived and were told that the wait would be 30 minutes. We took a number and sat down. An hour and a fifteen minutes later they called our number but didn’t have a table—only chairs against a countertop connected to the wall and since we had a group we wanted to be able to talk to each other—so we let the next number in line go ahead of us. Twenty minutes later they let another group that came in behind us sit at the table they were preparing for us. We explained they we had an earlier number, that we had been there longer, and that they had already called our number, but they literally ignored us. We sat back down and waited a little longer before asking the people seated at the table next to where we were waiting how long they had been waiting on their food. They told us an hour and a half. At that point we decided we didn’t want to wait a total of three and a half hours just to have dinner so we left.
I get that restaurants might be understaffed, have fewer tables, and receive more take-out orders due to Covid. But that doesn’t mean you give people a horribly inaccurate waiting time, let people jump the line, and then be rude to your customers. I like the Sushi Ya in Orem, but I’ll never go back to the one...
