I haven't been to a Mexican restaurant that was as cozy, authentic, and insanely delicious as this one since I was in training in Missouri. On my first visit to San Jose's, I had an air of skepticism towards the ravings I had heard about it, especially having fond memories of a certain place off-base from Ft. Leonardwood, MO. However, pulling up to the place, there was a line out the door to be seated, and my doubts slowly turned to curiosity.
It wasn't until I stepped in and saw the set up of the interior, a colorful cavalcade of papel picado strewn about the ceiling strung on faux iron bars resembling balconies on a Mexican street front, all surrounding a mausoleum-esque seating area that was bustling with clinks of forks hitting plates and lively Latin music playing through the speakers. I felt immersed in a place that went out of it's way to set up a theme that matched the cuisine perfectly and created smells that made me want to salivate.
Then we sat down, and I was enthralled, nearly overwhelmed, by the amount of food choices they packed into it. Now, when it comes to Mexican, I'm all about meat wrapped in flour, fried and smothered in queso. Naturally, my choice was narrowed to the chimichanga, a ten-inch delectable that perfectly matched my desire. It arrived, I buried my fork and knife into it, and I took the first bite. Remember that place in Missouri I mentioned before? Let's just say it immediately became number two on my list of the best Mexican restaurants I've ever been to. Easily, this was the best chimichanga, if not the best Mexican I have ever had, and I'm a Cuban from Miami who can discern what good food is and what amazing food is. THIS was amazing. Somehow I managed to save enough room for dessert so I ultimately decided to try their flan, still clutching on to my skepticism as to not be completely wrong about this place. Fuggettaboutit. I fell in love.
If you're still here and still debating whether this is a place you want to try, consider whether you want to have real, authentic Mexican from now on or you want to settle for some Tex-Mex and pretend to enjoy it. This place will bring you the former and then some. The staff is wonderfully accommodating and friendly and the food... well I think I've said plenty. I will be back...

The food? Absolutely delicious. 😋 Seasoned perfectly and full of flavor. My husband and I cleaned our plates without hesitation! 🍽️ The margarita deal—2 for $7—was a pleasant surprise, and they were genuinely tasty. 🍸 Our total for two entrées, appetizers, and margaritas came to around $50, which felt very reasonable for the quality and experience. 💵✅
The service was another highlight. The waitresses were friendly, helpful, and on point. 👍 I noticed how efficiently the team worked together—tables were cleaned right after guests left, and the dining area stayed neat and orderly throughout our visit. 🧽 There was no wait when we arrived, and the service was impressively prompt. ⏱️
