Read moreI’d been meaning to check this place out for a while as it came recommended by a friend and it is not a chain. I had the Parmesan-Garlic Blackened Steak Wrap with their house variation of a Cosmopolitan. The wrap was tasty. As the picture shows they took the time to present that lovely cross section with the perfect medium on full display. The cocktail was enjoyable. The outdoor seating area is really nice and my server, Maria, did an outstanding job.
The menu is something a chef has clearly taken the time to put together and it shows. I would dare say the offerings at Crooked Spoon might feel right at home at something like Chicago’s renowned Restaurant Week. Despite the casual nature of the menu items, there is real craftsmanship apparent here and the menu is not unbearably pretentious either. However there is something missing. The cocktail was sufficiently enjoyable but not perfectly balanced. The steak was cooked to temperature and the cross section was appealing but the sear was lacking. The chips were crispy but not fresh out of the kettle warm. The menu was not cleanly presentable; it came to me in three distinct pages and felt quite disorganized. The devil of mediocrity is the finer details, and if I sound harsh it is because this place is clearly showcasing someone’s passion for their craft and it has the potential for distinction. As I mentioned before, this is not a chain restaurant. Someone’s soul is on display, and so I feel this warrants a more careful critique and also the risk of nitpicking.
I’d definitely come back to see what Chefs Saelg and Vic have in store for the residents...
Read moreTwo stars given because the food was alright. The 420 burger was saved by the sauces added but the meat itself was lacking in seasoning. I’ve had better seasoned meat at fast food restaurants. My complaint is with the customer service. We came in as a large party of about 15 people and were told the only space for us was outside on the patio. We agreed to this over the phone because most places with outdoor seating do have some sort of shading against the sun. As soon as we arrive the restaurant is not very busy at all and we were told the only option still is to be seated outside. Okay fair but the tables were directly in the sun. They did their best to move them but it was the attitude we were given about our request to move the tables out of the sun. The hostess made some snarky comments regarding our concern as soon as majority of our party was out of sight and during our meal, one of our party guests was pregnant and moved to the other side of the table that was partially out of the sun, was told to move out of the way so the waiter could get through. The table behind us moved their chairs and the waiter said “oh not you guys”. We found that to be incredibly rude. It’s almost as if the staff was mad at us because we didn’t want to eat our hot food in the hot sun. The waiter made it clear as well she was not very thrilled to be serving us. Granted , we could have left but wanted to give it a chance and were already starving. It’s safe to say we will...
