Stopped by for lunch and got the special (large) which is rice, beans, and meat. I like supporting small businesses but they have a few problems in my opinion. When I walked in and approached the food counter some people walked up a minute after and went to the register ordered and paid without anyone offering to help me first. Then the girl at the register asked me if I was ready to which I replied I was so then she told me I had to pay first which I thought was strange since I haven't gone to any other counter serve restaurants where you pay before they fix your plate, not that big of a deal just backwards in my opinion. Second, they have white rice and white rice with black beans. Then you choose either black beans or what looked like pinto beans. So you can have rice and beans or rice and beans. For meat I chose the ropa vieja. It wasn't bad it was just OK. The girl serving me didn't know what it was when I told her that's what I wanted I had to tell her it was the shredded beef which was kind of funny/strange. Also I had the choice of either yucca or plantains, I got the yucca and she filled the section of the plate with the water it was in. Basically there was nothing that set this restaurant apart as being special or authentic. If you get around Orlando there are other Latin restaurants like Lechonera Latina that serve the same food for less money in larger portions (almost double) with more choices and better quality. On the up side the sandwiches I saw people order looked good and I wished I had ordered one and the place seemed to be pretty clean. I may go back and try a Cuban to give...
Read moreI am a Cuban-American who was raised in South Florida. I cook Cuban food, I eat Cuban food, I have visited many many Cuban restaurants. I hate when someone says they are a Cuban food restaurant when they are definately not. Nothing about Troys is Cuban First, Cuban restaurants do not have a buffet style restaurant. They are a sit down restaurants with servers serving you.
Second, they DO NOT serve Cuban bread it is french bread, stop calling it that. Third, tbere sandwiches are not legit. Steak sandwiches are not philly cheesesteak style. The steak samdwich has a large and thin palomilla steak, eith lettuce, tomatoes, onions and chips. It is pressed down making it very flat. Troys does not serve it this way so stop calling it a pan con bistec. There media noche is not with the sweet bread that it comes with and thete Cuban sandwich is also not with the Cuban bread that it comes with.
I have given them 4 chances to get it together. I have explained to the owner, who is not Cuban, that they are not a Cuban Restaurant but a Puerto Rican restaurant. I know that non Cubans can be fooled to think it is but not a true Cuban. Troys is a fraud and should stop calling themselves a Cuban Restaurant.
Anyone wanting true authentic Cuban Food should take a drive sown South and visit Versailles restaurant in Miami, La Carretta Restaurant in Dade or Broward County they are everywhere, etc. Google the sandwiches before ordering them and you will see what I mean. Very disappointed. I have so been looking for a good Cuban Restaurant in Clermont or four corners and haven't...
Read moreI must say my family and I were extremely excited about trying What we thought was true authentic food, that we were led to believe By the false reviews and photos online. We often go down south and are very familiar with authentic Cuban cuisine and we came Across this restaurant with high hopes to find something authentic in this area as is not common in the Disney area to find authenticity. Sadly I must share our experience and inform those seeking authentic cuban food that this restaurant is deceiving and absolutely not authentic ! They are serving parboiled white rice, frozen plantains, frozen dry yuca, frozen ham croquettes, Flavorless black beans With no garlic and onions, then the Cuban sandwich was not nice and thin and crispy pressed As a matter fact it wasn’t pressed or toasted at all and there was a small packet size of mustard squeezed on one small spot of the sand which, very dry bread and only one small pickle on the cuban sand which! The dressings and sauces are not even made in-house The Mojo sauce also flavorless. I feel It’s a Cuban restaurant that really lacks the hispanic culture and therefore the cuban latin flavor so sadly we Will not be back. If the online advertisement stated it was Americanized and frozen food Cuban then we would’ve been well-informed and stayed clear of it because we were looking for...
