The food was mediocre & the prices were insane! I have to say though, the Gnocchi were fantastic. They didn't look homemade like some of the pics online. All the appetizers are OVERPRICED! Bread they gave was just a basket & we only had water. The bread was so stale. I literally asked for butter 5 times. When I did get it. They kid didn't remove the saran wrap & it was too cold to spread, not being to taste the mixed herbs & garlic. Front of the house is nice though I almost tripped on the raised dividers. Then we were brought to the back of the place & it was so dated. I felt like I could be at an Italian Wedding that the parents didn't pay for because of the decor. As much as Euro bust sculptures are apart of our past, they aren't decor. You can get away with maybe one. Then there were doors that disappeared behind the mural painting that was put on the walls. Maybe it was wallpaper? I don't think this is safe for old people & they had a utensil cart with glasses too blocking the banisters to go up & down the stairs. With the prices that are charged, they can afford to make the back of the restaurant match the front. I felt bad for the owner because he was trying to run a tight ship but his employees were loud in opinion which shouldn't happen in front of customers. Don't know which service person smoked but I could smell it. Everyone did. Another big thing. The front of the restaurant and the back of the restaurant played different music equally loud. I thought we were going to go crazy. We skipped dessert since we lost to catch the flavors of this place. Anyway, you don't have to play Frank Sinatra & Dean Martin on repeat to feel like it's Italian. Opera, classical, modern Italian pop & many old musicians of Italy from the 1920's. We have such great musicians/singer/artists. We are more than just music from the NYC Mafia Era. I'd be glad to help this restaurant have some...
Ā Ā Ā Read moreWe were lucky to happen upon this wonderful restaurant in the summer of 2021. When we visited again in April 2022, the owner still remembered us from that previous visit; this tells you everything you need to know about the welcoming family-like atmosphere of this restaurant. The ambiance is great for a long leisurely meal with family, and I imagine that it would also be a great ace for a romantic dinner for two. They play a great selection of music, ranging from arias to American Popular Song (think "Chances Are", "Misty", and "Moon River"), but the music is never too loud and will never drown out your conversation. The selection of wines by the glass has enough breadth to pair well with all of their appetizers and entrees. The service is excellent - they are there when you need them and, just as important, they are not there when you don't need them. This is the kind of restaurant that is conducive to long leisurely meals; they are not going to bring out your entree while you are still in the middle of your appetizers. I'm sure that if you are in a hurry, they will be happy to accommodate you, but by default they are going to assume that you want to take your time. My favorite appetizer is the sauteed calamari; it is very lightly breaded and sauteed with bell peppers, onion, and kalamata olives. I would happily have this wonderful dish as an entree, but we ended up splitting it as an appetizer. Their veal, chicken, and fish entrees are all definitely worth trying. They are simple, tasty, and prepared to perfection. I haven't tried the beef, but I noticed that several tables around me ordered beef dishes and seemed to enjoy them. Finally, for dessert I highly recommend the lemon sorbet. It is served inside a large hollowed-out frozen lemon with a bit of cream on the side - the absolute perfect ending to an absolutely...
Ā Ā Ā Read moreIn our tour of Little Italy, Angelo's Nido was next. We were the first in the restaurant, they opened at 11:30 and not noon like the others. The Server/Bartender (maybe owner/manager) was getting ready for the day when we walked in and quickly came over to seat us.
Soon after, we had water and delicious bread while we looked over the menu. We ordered drinks while we made our decisions.
We both love Eggplant Parm and almost always order it. Another favorite is Chicken Parm so we both decided to continue the tradition. They both come with a side of pasta with a house sauce. I opted for rigatoni and my wife got angel hair, both with marinara.
I am not sure if they were still setting up for the day or missing staff, but the food did take a little time to arrive. It was not a big deal as we were not in a hurry, it was just a little odd since it was empty.
Once the food arrived, we both commented on the large portions. Not that we were complaining, just odd being lunchtime.
The sauce was good and the pasta cooked well. The presentation was also nice and not sloppy. Both dishes were tasty, although not our favorite. The eggplant was more casserole style and not fried pieces like others. The chicken was good but I would have rather it been pounded out and thinner.
If Angelo's Nido was in any other part of town we would for sure be back. However, with other amazing spots in Little Italy, it is tough to decide. Prices were very reasonable, especially with the bread and pasta. Since we are not around the corner, it is not easy to stop in and explore the menu. Everything aside, they are still a 5-star review and...
