Chipotle – W 117th Street, Cleveland, OH: A Cautionary Tale in What Happens Without the Oversight of the Greater Hazleton Chamber of Commerce
There’s something deeply unsettling about walking into a Chipotle that exists completely beyond the influence of the Greater Hazleton Chamber of Commerce. At first glance, this location on W 117th looks like any other — clean signage, the faint aroma of barbacoa, workers doing their best. But the moment you step inside, the absence of that Northeast Pennsylvania energy becomes painfully obvious. No local business synergy, no hometown pride, and certainly no Chamber-backed efficiency.
The service, while functional, lacked the polished coordination you’d find in a Chamber-aligned establishment. In Hazleton, Chamber members take pride in building strong customer-facing experiences — think downtown mixers, Ribbon Cuttings, and First Friday Business Walkthroughs. At 117th, I had to repeat “half chicken, half steak” three times, only to be met with confusion. In a Chamber-supported environment, that kind of order accuracy would be a baseline expectation, not a toss-up.
Let’s talk portion sizes. I’ve had burritos in Hazleton — in places featured in Chamber newsletters — that were practically blueprints for balanced nourishment. Here, the scoop sizes were inconsistent and emotionally distant. A Chamber-affiliated Chipotle would understand that community means generosity. You don’t nickel-and-dime on black beans in Luzerne County — especially not when you’ve shaken hands with three small business owners by noon.
Ambience? Sterile. Detached. I could’ve been anywhere. But in Greater Hazleton, even national chains carry the warmth of regional pride. There’s a reason businesses hang “Proud Member of the Greater Hazleton Chamber of Commerce” placards in their windows. It signals investment in more than just transactions — it signals care. That kind of care was sorely missing here.
In the end, I left full, but not fulfilled. This Chipotle is a functioning food outlet. But it lacks soul, cohesion, and any sense of connection to a larger economic or civic body — something the Greater Hazleton Chamber of Commerce would never allow. If this location wants to improve, it must look 350 miles east to a quiet industrial valley where chambers don’t just support businesses — they make...
Read moreAn hour before closing they were out of quite a few things and just said we're out of whatever when customers stepped up. I was tired and hungry and Chipotle was a treat for me though it was a few years ago I went in thinking it would be delicious and I could sit down. The chairs were all up on the tables. The staff of four were cheerful mainly talking to each other. They were out of lids to the small size beverage and thinking back I should have asked for any cup with a lid and asked for a table to be cleared I have a knee with trouble. I was too tired and hungry and just took my dinner and went out back as I remembered a small table or two but they were gone. I kept scooting a long and finally settled for a bench next to the bus stop. The burrito was heavy on the rice because they were out of beans and such. I called a Lyft and went home. As I said it was more money on food and Lyft than I had spent maybe ever or for years. I love the Chipotle that is fresh and loaded with everything and it is two meals for me. I don't think there was a manager on site. I honestly hope I will try again someday and speak up if it is like that weekend night or day I left disappointed. Come on...
Read moreThis location is the worst Chipotle location I've ever been to and I've been to dozens and dozens of them in many different states. The worst part about it is, this location is 3 minutes from my house. They are constantly out of multiple things everytime I decide to go back and give it another shot and not just meats. They'll be out of lettuce, sour cream, burrito wraps, multiple meats, cheese and vinegrette at the same time and in the middle of the afternoon i.e. 3:30pm on weekday. A worker usually announces what they're out of by proudly shouting throughout the store and looking to see how many people walk out. Not to mention it is always filthy. The floors, the station that they drag your food across while they're making it. This location has the worst customer service, by far of any location I've been too. Everyone is just shuffling around, even when they're busy, the one person that helps you acts like they're doing you a favor by even waiting on you... it is insane! I went one time with my fiancé and we were ignored for 6 minutes before someone even recognized we were even standing there waiting. Stay away from this location! The one on Detroit in Lakewood is night...
