13 Restaurants Travis Should Take TS to for a Date in Cleveland

The Rowley Inn is a restaurant with an active bar. We called ahead and asked for a table for seven. They said it would be ready in 15 minutes. We arrived 15 minutes later, and the table was ready. The restaurant was full. Ours was the only empty table. Because the place was full, it took a while before we were served. However, all the employees were friendly and helpful. We had fried pickles as an appetizer. They were delicious. For our meals, we had a variety of dishes. We all enjoyed our dishes. I had Cleveland's best grilled cheese sandwich. It was very good, but not the best grilled cheese sandwich I've ever had. That one had port wine cheddar. The sandwich came with fries. They were excellent. Not quite as good as the fries from Thrasher's in Ocean City, MD or Rehoboth, DE but very good. The fries at Rowley's are just as good as the fries from the Urban Kitchen, and for the same reason. The fries are coated with a thin layer of flour before they're deep fried. There's no parking lot, but there's free street parking. The inn is not very wheelchair accessible. There are two high steps between the sidewalk and the entry. As a little perk, the Rowley Inn is located across the street from the house where some of the scenes from the movie,"A Christmas Story" was filmed. The famous lamp in the shape of a woman's leg is still in the front window. It's not wearing its stocking. I recommend the Rowley Inn on Rowley.

My husband and I have been so enthused about coming here after watching it on DDD. The first time we drove 3 hours on a Monday, it was closed. Today we tried again, also a Monday, about 2pm. We were excited they were open. The manager seated us at a very small table. I asked her if we could have the larger table next to it because I'm claustrophobic in small places but we were also planning on ordering a lot of food. She said, "No, those tables are reserved for parties of 3 or more." The restaurant was virtually empty and a larger party never came in. That table remained open as did every table in the front of the restaurant. She wanted to save a table for a customer that may or may not come in later but I'm here now with money to spend and being treated very poorly. In addition to her unwillingness to accommodate her customers' request, she was also very rude and unfriendly. I wanted to get up and walk out but considering we drove 3 hours I did not. My husband got the burger. He liked it. I got the stuffed pablano pepper. It was luke warm after a very long wait to prepare it but otherwise tastey. But I think I would try something different if we ever return. My biggest complaint is please accommodate your customers' requests when possible. Especially on a Monday after the lunch rush and before dinner. I mean every table was open.

I have no real complaints about this place. Everything was about as expected. The environment feels like that of a local pub, and the service was fine. Although, we did get forgotten on drink refills at one point. We were seated right away. Seating is a bit tight, but it's manageable. For kids: They did have a high chair available, a cup with a lid and straw, and no crayons. The restaurant is located across the street from the Christmas Story House if you're interested in that. Street parking is limited, but it's free. As for the food, everything was good. We ordered the bacon-wrapped tots as featured on Diners, Drive-ins, and Dives. They are very good with the Chipotle ranch and worth a try. I ordered the chicken schnitzel with pepper gravy which came with garlic mashed potatoes and a side salad. My salad was a bit warm, but everything was good. The schnitzel was crispy and the gravy was flavorful. The kids burger was like a real, fresh burger and not a wimpy patty. The cheese on it was melty. The Rowley's Mac was also a good choice. We all left pleased.

Hope we just caught them on an off night. The tots and my husband's steak bowl was so peppery that is all you could taste. It was as if the lid fell off the pepper and the potatoes were drenched in it. The brussel sprouts were great as ate those before the tots. The textures were great. I had the shrimp and grits, but after the totes my pallet was too overwhelmed by the pepper to really taste them. Not sure if they were equally over peppered or if any taste of pepper multiplied due to the tots and sampling of husband's steak bowl which also had potatoes. Giving the benefit of the doubt that it was an error somewhere as none of the other reviews have mentioned the pepper and I'm confident they would have if anyone else's experience had have been similar. Extremely disappointed we spent over $100 on tonight's meal. 3/4 less pepper and this review would have been 5 star. The service was prompt and staff was attentive and pleasurable.

We decided to try the Rowley Inn after it was mentioned in our tour of The Christmas Story house. Glad we did! Not a fancy establishment, but rather one where you can get some hearty grub at a reasonable price! We started with the Poutine, which was some of the best we have ever had! The gravy had a nice black pepper taste and the white cheese curds paired nicely with the seasoned fries. We had a Reuben and a Rowley Melt. Both were large portions and we were able to take home leftovers for a late night snack! My favorite were the Shaved Balsamic and Goat Cheese Brussels! (I saw a negative review, but had to try them for myself) They were amazing! I could eat those every day! The staff was friendly and very attentive! I think we had three different people checking in on us during our meal to ensure all of our needs were met! Also, try the lemonade, it had to be homemade!
