Its no surprise for anyone who became home sick for the home cooked meals which we grew up being served by our family on the dinner table. There are a large selection of Turkish restaurants in North Jersey. Because of the large number of competition, they all have great kebab variety that is hard to choose one over the other when it comes to taste. However, when it came to home cooked variety of Turkish food....there were barely any.....until now. When a relative of mine mentioned Afiyet Restaurant during a get together and how awesome the food was, I knew I had to try.
The next day right after work, I headed there straight to try it for myself. Upon entering, my wife and I were greeted by a very friendly staff. However, my eyes were already locked on the large selection of home cooked meals and variety of soups. I was in amazement. I decided to get a few separate dishes and 2 soups to try it for dinner and take it for lunch the next day. The portions are very generous and they come with side choices you can choose from. We were both very inpatient to try these amazing looking dishes. First bite, took me both back to my childhood days and heaven at the same time. No doubt that all these foods were created with the love and passion of a chef who was not only an expert in his field, but also cared for his customers.
The following day, my wife and I went back again to try different dishes and some of their home cooked daily fresh deserts. Once again, we were both impressed above and beyond with the food we were tasting. Every day, the menu changes and you wonder what am I missing out on today if I don't go there.
If you have been looking for a place where the food will take you back on a memory lane....look no further. The owner/chef culinary skills are not to be taken lightly. Thank you for offering people like me the food that have been...
Read moreThe owner is really friendly. Nice selection of items. Lots of variety. Me and my partner had iskembe soup as a starter. I got the Kagit kebab and my partner got dolma as a main dish. My only complaint is charging $6 extra for plain yogurt and $20 extra for a dolma dish that had 3 dolmas on the plate and then charging it as a “meat dish” on the receipt. The yogurt should be included in the $20 price, not charged separately! however, everything else was good. For dessert, we got the kabak tatlisi which was okay, not the best but can’t complain. Most of the portions were large besides the dolma dish. Our server was very nice too. They offered Turkish tea on the house which was a plus with...
Read moreOMG this place is amazing! Just like a lokanta in Turkey which offers lots of options. We got an eggplant dish and another one with well seasoned white beans. Both were super delicious. Each order also came with either a salad or yogurt with dill as well as Turkish rice (pilav). Even the bread was great as it was warmed up. Super hospitable service too from the staff who offered us Turkish tea just like in Turkey. They also had lots of authentic desserts including candied pumpkin but I was too full to try. Can't wait...
