We visited Honest in Clifton, NJ, and had a wonderful dining experience with some standout vegetarian dishes.
The chole bhatura was a highlight – the bhatura was soft, fluffy, and served piping hot, paired perfectly with flavorful and delicious chole. The masala dosa had an amazing crispness, though the potato masala filling was slightly dry for our taste. The papdi chaat was another winner, maintaining its crisp texture and offering a great balance of flavors.
The star of the meal, however, was the Hakka noodles – truly the best dish of the night! The Indo-Chinese flavors were perfectly executed, and the vegetables-to-noodles ratio was spot on. It left us wishing we had tried more Indo-Chinese options from their menu.
The location is very child-friendly, with plenty of high chairs available, making it great for families with toddlers or babies.
One drawback was the frequent stream of customers picking up takeout. While it’s great to see how popular the restaurant is, the cold air from the door opening constantly (on a freezing day) made the dining area chilly and cooled down our food faster than we would have liked. A winterized entryway, like those seen in NYC restaurants, would significantly improve the dining experience during colder months.
Overall, we had a great time and thoroughly enjoyed the delicious food. Honest is a solid spot for vegetarian and Indo-Chinese cuisine, and we look forward...

We had the absolute pleasure of dining at The Honest Restaurant in Clifton with a large family group, 10 adults and 2 kids, and the experience was nothing short of phenomenal. From the moment we walked in, the staff welcomed us with warm smiles and gracious hospitality. They handled our big party effortlessly and made us feel completely at home.
We ordered over $200 worth of food for dine-in, and every single dish was a hit! The flavors were bold, authentic, and absolutely delicious. You could truly taste the freshness and care in each bite. The menu had something for everyone, from street food favorites to rich curries and amazing Indo-Chinese options.
Despite the size of our group, service was prompt, attentive, and friendly. The staff made sure our table was always stocked with what we needed, checked in regularly, and even engaged with the kids to make them feel included.

Read moreIt’s frustrating how overpriced this company is already, but their food in Edison and jersey city usually justifies it. The price for food here is completely unjustified. Sure, the staff is nice - but they were missing multiple chaats, didn’t have paneer 65, couldn’t make a certain way of pav bhaaji and if I remember correctly, they had some issue with the pizza… lol we settled for the other type of paav bhaji and a pretty disgusting samosa chat. We only finished the food since we were there for roughly 2 hours and catching up.
Naturally, we thought we could at least supplement the food with a classic Indian soft drink - thums up, limka or even Fanta… also didn’t have it 😂
Frustratingly, we cut our losses and just asked for 2 cups for water. They said “no water, only water bottles … At this point, we just laughed. Paid the ridiculous $40 for 2 entrees and 2 waters. Ate the equivalent quality of a run down Burger King for a well known establishment, and called it a day.
The place was clean though, cashier seemed nice, and ample parking - but the sign didn’t line up.
There’s maybe 20 Honest locations in the state of jersey - save yourself the time and discomfort and go to one...
