I’m writing this review on behalf of my boyfriend, who asked me to share his experience after eating here. He brought his mom for what he thought would be a nice lunch, but instead ran into service issues and poor execution. He went during a Friday weekday afternoon, when school is in session, so the flow of business shouldn’t have been nearly as busy as it gets during the summer time.
My boyfriend and I have been to several Paris Baguette locations (Weehawken, Edgewater, and Ridgefield) so he walked in with certain expectations. Personally, I’ve also been to Paris Baguette locations in South Jersey and Philadelphia. Down there, the service is noticeably better than in North Jersey, but the stores themselves aren’t as polished or established as the ones up north.
Unfortunately, this Clifton location fell short compared to all of the others. While the space itself is nice, very clean, visually appealing, and sized somewhere between the Ridgefield and Edgewater stores, the service quality didn’t match.
Parking was convenient, which was a plus, but that’s where the positives ended.
When the lunch rush hit, the staff created an “express line” for Apple Pay and card payments only. In theory, this sounds efficient, but in practice it caused problems. My boyfriend’s sandwich ended up being served barely warm, even though he had specifically asked for it toasted. When he requested they reheat it, it was obvious the toaster was set to “warm” instead of actually toasting. The staff didn’t make an effort to fix it, which was frustrating. His mom got a crab croquette and it was so so. She had gotten one from the Edgewater location a few days prior which she enjoyed much better.
On top of that, the employees came across as untrained and disorganized, like they weren’t sure what they were doing. My boyfriend and I have both pointed out that this isn’t just a Clifton issue. It seems like a broader corporate training problem across multiple Paris Baguette locations.
PROS Great parking availability Attractive interior and design Decent bathroom facilities Convenient express payment line idea
CONS Food came out lukewarm instead of toasted Staff seemed disorganized and undertrained Service dropped off during busy hours Express line system actually hurt food quality Employees didn’t seem to care about getting the order right
RATING: 2.8/5 Overall, according to my boyfriend, Weehawken and Edgewater are still the best Paris Baguette experiences. This Clifton location has potential with its nice layout and convenience, but it fails in execution and service quality based...
Read moreBETTER GO TO ANOTHER LOCATION! I stopped by to get a cake for my kids. I was standing in line with a crying toddler on my lap for 10 minutes, and there were about 3 people assisting customers, but they were just strolling around and doing other tasks instead of serving the line of customers. Finally, one girl with a poker face started to assist the lady in front of me. Her colleague came up, saw the line, and turned around, ready to leave; he was literally ignoring us and my crying child. He slowly started to put out pieces of cake on display. When I asked him to assist me first, Carlos rolled his eyes and came over. My child showed him the cake he wanted, and Carlos took it somewhere else (even though he was packing everything else right there). He came back with a wide smile that looked creepy. I paid and, of course, tipped as I always do—even when the service is poor—and left. When I opened the box at home, I was shocked to find something disgusting on top of the chocolate mousse that looked like spittle. I threw the $50 cake in the garbage. I would have come back to make him eat it, but it was late, and the kids were upset. However, I will definitely contact the Health Department. You should be ashamed of how you treat customers and the...
Read moreI’ve been a regular customer at Paris Baguette, and it never disappoints! On my recent visit, I ordered the Cappuccino cake, strawberry cake slices, blueberry pastry, and tiramisu. The Cappuccino cake was the star of the day, I bought it for a birthday celebration, and my friend absolutely loved it. It’s a perfect choice for any coffee lover light, creamy, and rich in flavor. I genuinely loved it so much myself!
I’ve also tried several of their pastries before, and everything is usually fresh and well-balanced in sweetness. One important note: check the ingredient labels carefully, especially if you’re vegetarian or avoid meat, as some pastries contain pork or other meat-based ingredients.
The service is always friendly and efficient, and despite the usual line at the pickup counter, things move fairly quickly. I’ve always found free parking available, which is super convenient given how busy it can get.
Overall, Paris Baguette remains one of my favorite spots for cakes and pastries. Whether you're grabbing a slice for yourself or picking up a full cake for a celebration, you really can’t...
