I started going here in 2012 when I moved to the DM area, as my office was right down the street. The food was great, and the service was friendly although a big slow. After a year passed, the food went downhill and the service was awful. I stopped going and started going to a Thai restaurant further east on University. I recently gave Zuzap another shot within the past 12 months. The food is very good. I love their potstickers, tom yum soup, and basil stir fry. They have a great lunch special for $10 or $11 that includes a lunch portion of the entree, half an order of an appetizer, a small soup, and a drink. One of the things they have changed is they only serve cans of soda, so there are no refills which is frustrating. With what places charge for drinks, you should at least get free refills. The other frustrations/problems are: The restaurant is extremely small, so if you get there between 11:45 - 12:45 you are not likely to get a table. It also is a pretty "worn" restaurant, and could use some updating and general maintenance. The service is painfully slow. I'm talking really, really, really slow. I get an hour for lunch, and it takes a good 50 minutes of my lunch hour from when I arrive to when I leave. And I always order the same thing, so there is no time spent checking over the menu trying to decide. Some of the wait staff are not at all friendly. They automatically serve water with lemon, and when I ask for one without, one waitress sighs and walks away without responding almost every time.
If you are not in a rush, and looking for a good Thai lunch, and are not easily offended by luke-warm wait staff, the food...
Read moreNot sure if we came on a bad day or what but this was our first experience here and we have always wanted to try it. But the waitress was training a new employee so when we walked in we were yelled at across the room if it was for here or to go. Obviously it came off as really unsettling but we proceeded to go along with it and sit down. The waitress never smiled and never spoke to us, even though we said thank you everytime she brought us something, unless it was a question about the menu and even so it felt as if we were keeping her from something or just a plain nuisance. We came earlier than the lunch rush and ordered our food before everyone started filling into the restaurant, I noticed the waitress acknowledged 'regulars' and was nice to them but not to anyone else. The food took longer than it should have in my opinion, since there was only two other people in there at the time our orders got sent back to the kitchen. Overall the taste and flavor was good, I got the Pad Thai, no complaints. Besides the length of getting the food our waitress never came back until we had to catch her for the check in which when we paid, she brought it back as she walked by never saying anything to us. Frankly we shouldn't have even left a tip because it may only encourage the waitress to treat new customers the same way. As we left it felt as if we weren't wanted there in the first place and didn't leave satisfied. Everyone has their own standards and experiences but this one fell short of everything, perhaps we will try it again sometime -...
Read moreEverything is five stars here except the seating. They should seriously replace some of the bench seats. I know it sounds like I'm nitpicking, but that's because this is the best Thai or Asian restaurant I've been to in 100 miles, at least tied with A Dong. Prices? 5 stars. Quantity? 5 stars. Variety? As long as you like Asian food, 5 stars. The food is high in variety and high in quality. They are a small place, but they are clean, and the atmosphere is better than average.
The value of this place is the best part, they are inexpensive, but still a cute place to eat. Whether lunch or a quick date meal, it works out well.
If I can recommend something that I am very passionate about, it is their Thai Coconut Soup with 5/6 star spicy levels. Like all of their food, it is so much better than they are charging for it.
If you don't like Thai, get the sesame chicken, the General's chicken, or the pad thai. I could sit there and eat nothing but shrimp rangoons if I wanted.
Chinese options that taste like no one else, curry options I'd not had before, better fortune cookies than anyone else, it's amazing.
When family or friends visit town, they only want to go here. I can't say enough good things. I can't think of anywhere I like more for full meals.
I have had over 20 things on this menu, and every time I want to try something new, I do so with absolutely no trepidation. No matter what the food is, it is well prepared, flavorful, fresh,...
