Butterfish — Restaurant in Clovis

I'm highly allergic to shellfish, but this happens to be my daughter's favorite place to eat, so I don't mind bringing them here, because it means the they'll actually eat veggies. My first visit here, I was going to just have a coke, since most everything on the menu contains shellfish in one form, or another. Then I spotted the Chinese Checken Salad. I asked the girl behind the counter if there was any shellfish in that particular dish. Her response floored me. She asked me a couple of questions about what I could, and couldn't eat, and then promptly disappeared into the kitchen. She returned carrying fresh, unopened ingredients from the back, and began to prepare said salad for me. Then she said, "My dad has a shellfish allergy, too, He has to be very careful whenever he goes out to eat, so I know how careful you have to be." The simple fact that this young person took the time, and effort, to make ensure that there was almost no chance of my food coming into contact with any kind of shellfish, whatsoever, meant so much to me. I decided yesterday to try this place out because I had read all the great reviews. I am very very very disappointed. Also very very let down. Within the very first bite I took of the salmon they had put in my bowl I knew something was wrong. The salmon didn’t have the usual silky texture. NO instead it was grainy and very hard to chew. Did not break down easily in my mouth. Also, within the first bite I could tell there was something not good with the salmon, because of the overpowering odor coming from my mouth and the bowl. It was very difficult for me to notice it before hand because I’ve had covid so my sense of taste and smell is off. But once I took a bite I noticed it immediately. I can’t say exactly what the odor smelled like but I can tell you it was extremely strong. And not a good smell at all. When I asked my brother who hasn’t had covid to smell and taste it his face said it all. Also my rice was not even remotely cooked. So I paid 17.89 for a completely inedible poke bowl. If that’s what you want to call it. I would def not call that a poke bowl. They really need to up their game. First time costumer that WILL NOT be coming...

Worst experience thus far. Let’s start off with the fact that I have gone to this establishment a few times in the past, always have good service and my food is correct 9/10 times. However, this time around….. Firstly the worker walks with the food for my order with a side order of potato salad in hand, then drops the potato salad on the floor. I work in the food industry so grabbing something off the floor requires you to wash your hands after grabbing anything off the floor, that’s just a sanitary thing. They proceed to place the potato salad on the COUNTER and then into my BAG OF FOOD. Which I may add has free standing utensils inside the bag.
