I've had the moons over my hammy at Denny's for so long I can't even remember when I started ordering it. I always get it, my go to. What I had today was not a moons over my hammy for one reason, the bread was all wrong. I have a very strong suspicion they gave me wheat bread instead of sour dough. When I asked my waitress, did y'all run out of sourdough? Her response was no, that's what our sour dough looks like here....I know we're in New Mexico and things can be a bit stranger than in most places but sour dough is sour dough...I proceeded to bite into my sandwich in front of the waitress and followed up with my suspicion of it not tasting right. You see, the allure of the moons over my hammy comes from the perfect blend of crunchy airy bread, with melted cheese, egg and ham. This was not the sandwich I have been ordering for almost 20 years- I'll have the manager confirm for you she said, Minutes later as I resignedly bit into my sandwich, the young manager came over and confirmed, this was their sour dough bread.... He then proceeded to explain to me that it doesn't taste all good and soury like the sour dough you can buy at Walmart which was much better, I soon realized this man had never eaten sour dough bread in his life. Whatever, I was very hungry and kept eating until I bit into the second half of the sandwich, something sweet, now I'm no bread expert but I am pretty sure sour dough is not sweet, I flipped over there sandwich... Big crumbs of cinnamon sugar sprinkled all over my sandwich, embedded into the "sour dough"....I was mad, waitress was nowhere to be found, I'll just eat the egg and ham with my fork , oh wait, no silverware, still no waitress, I spotted unused silverware nearby, got up and grabbed them... Waitress finally came by, how's everything tasting, is that cinnamon on my bread I asked? I have no idea she said, it tastes sweet like cinnamon sugar I said, it could be she answered. I asked for the bill. Waited almost an hour for my sandwich.... It was awful. As she approached my table I quickly stood up and took the bill, we comped your meal she said, why I asked? Well you seemed unhappy with your meal, we're not going to charge you if you didn't like it....I once again tried to explain to her what was wrong with my meal, even showed her a picture of a moons over my hammy on my phone, she didn't seem to understand, I asked her if she had ever had a moons over my hammy she said no. I think this Denny's is due for an internal review, worst experience I've ever had at a Denny's... And I've...
Read moreThe last two visits I made with my family at this location ended with us leaving before even getting seated. Today (Saturday, October 28, 2017, after 1130), we visited at a low point of business. There was no line, and three employees were behind the counter cashing out two tables that were waiting to pay. We waited patiently while the three employees scrambled under the lack of customer load and seemed utterly lost as to what they should be doing. Each of the three of them asked us if we needed to be seated, even though they were standing beside one another when each of them asked. Each of them pulled menus for our party and then walked off without seating us. Afterward, one of the other employees who were initially behind the counter as all this played out, would replace the same menus back on the stack behind them knowing that we had still not yet been seated. There were tables open all over the restaurant and after 20+ minutes of watching, what could only be described as complete incompetence, I said to my wife that we needed to leave and find another place to eat. If three employees could not manage to seat us, who knows what kind of shape in which the kitchen must be. This basic scenario has occurred the last two times we visited the Denny’s in Clovis, NM and I am satisfied to say that we will not likely be returning. I’m hoping someone with a money interest in this restaurant is keeping up with the media presence and decides they are in business to make money. Perhaps this post can help the interested parties re-assess the management of...
Read moreMy whole family is Gluten-Free and therefore don't get to eat out much. Like hardly ever. I decided after church tonight I would take my 4 kids to Dennys for pancakes. We get in and she asks for our drinks. While my younger 2 mulled over what fun drink to get, I said at least twice that we were doing the pancakes, and also inquired about other GF menus options for future dining. She tried telling me of some, I asked if there were connotation for GF items. She said no ma'am. Which after she left to get the drinks I found that there WHERE GF marks on meals, sides, etc. She comes back with the drinks and I again said we'd be doing the pancakes, and asked if I could have the GF pancakes made with the cinnamon crumble, as the cinnamon roll pancakes were my fave before we had to go GF. And also asked if it was possible to MAKE SURE the crumble didn't have wheat in it, and she didn't go ask, or get me an ingredients list, she just said it just has cinnamon in it. Which of course it at least also has sugar...... She THEN says GF pancakes? We don't have those........ Then I struggled because I felt bad for my kids. And that they had chocolate milk and we'd come for pancakes, and had to leave empty bellied. I cried in the car before leaving. I wish businesses would understand how hard it is having an intolerance, or even a full blown...
