Sake Japanese Steakhouse | Restaurant Hunt Valley — Restaurant in Cockeysville

I used to frequent this restaurant before it was closed and re-opened (as Sakura) so my expectations were very high once Sake opened!

The staff is very kind and attentive, and the chefs are very funny! Overall, I've had both an ok hibachi experience and a great table-dining experience. The sushi is very yummy and well made, especially the shrimp tempura hand roll I ate.

The update to the interior really livens up the space and the connected hibachi tables are super comfortable and spacious!

I will say that my hibachi lunch was sadly disappointing. I ordered a hibachi steak lunch, which came with vegetables and fried rice. The steak part of it was wonderful. I asked for it medium rare (on the rarer side) and it was cooked beautifully. However, I believe the rice and veggies were either left too long or the stovetop was just a bit too hot, as both myself and my friend found ourselves biting into burnt pieces of rice and the veggies had a bit more than "char" on them. I don't really blame the chef much since this restaurant literally JUST opened and getting used to a new place to cook can be tough. I also wish the portions of protein were a bit larger for lunch!

I was excited to take my son for a new experience and the reviews were great. We had a reservation for 7:30 on Saturday night. After a brief wait, we were escorted to our table and were joined by one other couple. We were greeted by our server and were given drinks. And this is when the wait begins. It took more than twenty minutes before we received a salad. After finishing that, we had to wait another twenty minutes until the soup arrived. We did not see our chef for more than forty-five minutes to an hour after being seated. The chef apologized and let us know that they are understaffed (not exactly what you want to hear) and worked fast to prepare everything. However, as entertaining as he was, he rushed through cooking and it truly lacked the fun experience, and isn't that what you are paying for? The food was good and they do provide plenty of it, but I can order from a local carry-out anytime. The chef and server were apologetic for the delays, but that should be passed along to management and some form of remedy would have gone a long way (even providing a quick and easy appetizer to bridge the gaps in time). We had a truly wonderful experience at this Japanese sushi restaurant! The food quality was absolutely excellent — every bite was fresh, flavorful, and beautifully prepared.

From the moment we arrived, we felt so warmly welcomed. The staff were incredibly friendly and attentive, especially the manager and the sushi chef, who went above and beyond to make our meal special.

What impressed us most was the tailor-made menu thoughtfully designed to suit our dining preferences. It felt very personalized, and we truly appreciated the attention to detail.

The prices were very reasonable given the high quality, and the presentation of the dishes was both elegant and artistic — blending traditional Japanese aesthetics with a modern New York Manhattan style flair.
