Jimma's Jamaican restaurant — Restaurant in College Park

I've been trying to branch out from my usual places to get my jamacian fix and found this place. Read a few reviews and it's been a min since I was near old natl so let's go! My rule of thumb for any new jamacian restaurant is try a patty first if they are dry just leave. These were very moist on the inside and crispy flaky as they should!

Let's order When I entered I was greeted with my gwon. Now most restaurants the greeting is important to me but jamacian restaurants are the exception as I've gotten great food with little to no acknowledgement and kissing of the teeth. The team working here are very friendly and explained some items to try. This ain't my first time we joked back and forth. I settled on curry goat dinner plate and oxtail dinner plate simply because of the price in these times iykyk. Very reasonable and large portions.

Both meals came with sahlad. Yes say it like that and gravy pon mi rice. Very short wait and my orders were ready.

Meals Now when I popped that top and saw I had butter beans in the oxtails....OK we might have a new go to! Oxtail were very good lots of meat coule be a bit spicier but very good! Now for some reason I didn't get plantains or either dish not sure if it didn't come with it or maybe it was forgotten but after eating the curry goat and rice and peas and salad I didn't have room anyway.

Curry goat now this was spiced just right!! I loved the flavor and not too many bones will Def get this again. But again no plantains in this plate as well??

Restaurant is decorated in usual colors with great music playing inside seating is available with plenty of drinks to choose from tropical rhythm and a ting would be my choices but they also offer some canned us drinks as well.

Will be back to try some other items as well very nice job...

I'll start by saying I'm surprised this place has over four stars, which is the reason I decided to try it out... despite some of the bad reviews posted. I should have given the bad reviews more weight because... unfortunately, my experience falls under the not so good review as well.

All my food was bland. Oxtail, rice & peas (beans), cabbage, and plaintains... which taste of straight oil. No sweetness at all! If this is an authentic Jamaican restaurant, that would be very surprising to me.

My oxtail texture was mixed. Some of them, the meat fell off the bone... the majority of them were a little tough and chewy. The number of times I had to chew just to get the meat in a safe enough texture to swallow was crazy.

My plantains were not fresh. And you have to pay for them separately. That's not typical in the places I've frequented.

I couldn't eat the cabbage at all.

The lady behind the counter at the register was nice, but her demeanor was very somber, like she would prefer not to be there. That may not be the case, but presentation and energy is everything to a customer.

That is one reason I decline tips on take out food. You don't know what you're getting until you get home. If it's good I'll tip from there on out. But in this case... as a native New Yorker, I can't return to this place again. I have no problem paying or supporting my own people (by that, I mean Black business)... I'll pay 30, 40 on up for the food (in this case, I paid 35), but damn it... if I am paying good money, I DESERVE good food!! You can't just charge anything for bad cooking. The ONLY food item I didn't have an issue with was the sorrel, but that was the one that came...

Update: I ordered from here a 2nd time, and as I was chewing my greens almost choked on a rubber band! I was sharing this meal with my 5 year old, thank God he didn’t get it! When I called the store they told me that they “apologized because it must’ve gotten missed.” That’s it!!! To find rubber bands in COOKED greens means that they didn’t clean the greens because you have to take the rubber band off to clean it! Added a picture, the rubber band is green from being cooked in the greens. DO NOT EAT HERE!!!!!!
