The HIGHLY anticipated Maryland Tandoor is finally opened, and about time. I came here with my friend first around lunch to check out the new restaurant and I really wanted try their coffee or chai and then I came back for dinner.
I ordered the butter chicken. The platter includes butter chicken, rice, naan and a side of choice (either chana masala or dal makhani). I got Chana masala because I really enjoyed Chana masala. I decided with my first time here get something I always get vs try a new dish. I think it’s a good price for the platter which was $15. I also ordered a mango lassi. My friend ordered a lamb kebab platter. I really enjoyed my food. At first I was a little underwhelmed, I could have used a bit more rice. However after tasting the food the quality of the food is definitely up there. The butter chicken was so good and the naan was delicious. There was a good amount of stew that could save it and eat later at home with my own rice.
The menu is extensiveeeee, there’s so many options and there is something for everyone. There is so much I want to try. The staff was SO kind both times I came by the restaurant they were incredibly helpful and kind. The restaurant is beautiful! I really love the aesthetic and look. There’s a good amount of tables to accommodate their busy crowd of students, staff and members of the community anyone enjoying a solo meal or a meal with friends. I do think this place gets ALOT of traffic from students, which makes sense however there isn’t much space for people to wait for their takeout orders. Most of them waited outside the restaurant but there was a lot of people crowding the water/sauce station since it right next to some small couches.
I would recommend this spot, for sure. It’s convenient, good, Indian spot in College Park that anyone can go to. I used to venture out to Silver Spring for good Indian food and now I...
Read moreA very thoughtful selection of food. I want to share my feedback as positively as possible:
What I really appreciated: First of all, thank you for making the meals halal-friendly. I truly value that. I was excited to see Chicken Biryani on the menu, served with Raita and Masala Chai. As someone from South Asia, I had been waiting for a place like this to open. College Park hardly has any biryani restaurants. This might even be the only one. So, I’m genuinely grateful. I absolutely loved the addition of Parle-G with the Masala Chai. People often don’t realize how nostalgic something so simple can be for a South Asian- it really brought back memories. Honestly, just for the chai and Parle-G combo, I would come back again.
Where I think improvement is needed:
The menu on Google Maps Menu Image and the website do not match the in-store pricing. In Google Map Manu Images, it says $12 for biryani, but in the restaurant and on the website it says $15 for “Biryani of the Day.” It would be helpful if the outdated menu images could be removed for clarity.
The portion size of the biryani feels a bit small compared to the price. For $15, I expected either a slightly larger portion or more value for the cost.
The food was not served hot, which was disappointing. The flavors were good, but if the dishes were served warm, it would have made a big difference in my...
Read moreSo glad to have good Indian food in the area! The place was very nicely renovated and feels like a proper sit down restaurant with the decor and ambience, despite it being built to be fast service. And the staff was super sweet!
The food was delicious. I ordered the palak paneer platter, and chose the chana dal as the side. Pictured is what I received (naan included). I was not disappointed. I also ordered the veg samosas, which were HUGE and delicious.
They also have a selection of hot tea from their automatic tea maker, including cardamom tea or masala, complimentary with your meal (with tea biscuits!!). A nice touch.
The menu is relatively small, and there are not many vegetarian options surprisingly, but it will not be a deterrent for me. This will become a regular...
