"That's going to be a little extra; is that OK?" It's the standard question you get at every Freebirds location. Usually that ranges from 50 cents to $1.50. However, today I got kicked in the teeth by that question. $5.70! That is how much extra the brisket is over the standard steak burrito. A regular brisket burrito is $13. I looked all around and there was no indication that "a little extra" was almost $6!! It was good, but not almost double the price good. When I asked the cashier about it she simply responded, "yeah... your server told you the brisket is extra." When I asked if they could show me on the menu board or the advertisements where it indicated it would be that much extra, they were unable to. I know this isn't Yelp, but I wanted to take the opportunity to let everyone know that a regular burrito with brisket is $13 and it isn't advertised or posted anywhere in the restaurant. Also, I'm aware that it isn't called a regular anymore. However, I used to work at the Feebirds on Texas in college and I don't care.

Freebirds is consistently good for us. We go here as a fallback option when we can't make up our dang minds about where the heck to go for some cheap food. Their menu has changed slightly over the years, but I always just get the Freebirds chicken burrito with Spanish rice, grilled veggies, pinto beans, lettuce, pico, corn, and some sort of salsa. My wife always orders tortilla bowl with queso and chips. They have pretty good queso but even their large (pictured) is not very big. They also don't give a lot of chips, so it just goes down quickly for the price. That's why I tend to stick with the burritos which are always packed with food if you instruct the employees to do so. Oh, and I always load up their death sauce on every bite. It's actually not that hot but has some good flavors. Okay, mouth is watering right now just thinking about it.... LOL. Workers are generally nice, but not always. I'm sure we'll be back soon.

One month update from review below, but same issue. Wife’s freebird was bigger and heavier than the monster sized burrito I paid a premium for. Taste is great but I will no longer pay a premium for an “upsized” burrito. Old review - Only giving a 1 star to hopefully draw the attention of the establishment. Ordered pickup and when my wife got home my Monster burrito (in the picture has a single small bite taken) and my wife’s Freebird sized burrito are the same size and weight. Difference is I paid $2-3 extra for my “bigger” burrito. Need to have some quality control or some way to make sure the customer is getting charged the correct amount for the size burrito they are getting.

The manager here is extremely rude. She had her employee ask us to pull up for our order, (2 basic bowls), to save time for the people behind us, despite the fact that we had waited upwards of 10 minutes for the car in front of us. I asked what the wait time would be, and he said 5 minutes. I told him I’d wait. He again tried to get us to move, but I refused and said “no, thank you.” He went and got the manager, who immediately began being defensive, and told us that we needed to move because people behind us had probably ordered before us, and they needed to get their orders to them. I asked how she could possibly know that, and she said that she couldn’t without verifying with them, but that they were having to wait. I told her that that’s what a line is, and that we had had to wait. I asked her what if we had to wait even longer, which she responded to by demanding we move forward. I again refused. She asked when our order was placed. My signal was bad in the drive through, so I couldn’t quickly load it. My husband pulled forward, and I found proof that our order was scheduled to be ready for pick up 20 minutes prior to my conversation with the manager. He showed this to the employee, (who did apologize and tried to make it right by tossing in a free queso), but the manager never apologized, or even made eye contact with my husband to acknowledge her mistake. I understand that fast food employees can be under a lot of pressure, and would have happily complied if we had a large, or complicated order, but we literally had two bowls. In the time she spent arguing with us, and trying to demand that we move, she could’ve easily just finished our order. It was extremely frustrating that we had to wait for as long as we did, and then we were essentially shooed out of the way in the spirit of “courtesy” to other patrons, when we’d been denied that courtesy, especially given that we’d driven into town from 30 minutes away to get a quick meal and shop. She was extremely rude, and I do not appreciate her trying to bully us.

At least the food was good, (her employee made it in front of...

This was my 1st time trying Freebirds and I being a fresh transplant to Texas had tried several other establishments that serve burritos and none were ever the definition of a great, or good, rendition. Since it was my lunch time I tried the Freebirds App whereas I could order ahead and with a specific time for pick-up in their drive thru. Win-win! I put my order in for 12:30 and arrived at 12:25 in the drive-thru and was informed they did not have my order and was I at the right location? I showed the App to the Greeter who then exclaimed,"It looks like your order just came over!" I waited until 12:45 very hungry, dismayed and dissatisfied with the entirety of the process! Happily, this is where my experience changed for the "Very much better" because once I removed the covering of the burrito I exposed a perfect depiction of a burrito!! Of course looks aren't everything so I took a big bite that was perfectly balanced with the chicken, jalapeños, whole beans, cilantro rice, etc, etc that I dove in for another looking to have some experience reflect negatively with the drive-up mishap but all I got was absolute deliciousness balanced, spicy, moist but not over wet and a burrito that was as great in the last bite as the first! Yes Freebirds you won my frustration over with your delectable fresh tasty ingredients but now I'll pick my next battle when I'm looking forward to returning. CONSISTENCY! The balls in your court FB and I hope I lose...

I have been eating at Freebirds since the "Save the Bird" days in 1992 and while they have had their ups and downs in quality and service through the years, I have found that the Freebirds Gateway location in College Station is the BEST these days! The people who work there seem to enjoy working there and the quality and quantity of food they serve meets the amazing standards that make me a Freebirds loyalist (I just can't eat at the other place that claims to make burritos). I can't speak about the other locations in town because I've found this one and stick with it because of the great service and food, but compared to Freebirds locations in other cities, they should all be taking lessons from this team at Freebirds Gateway.

Even a few weeks ago, I got home with our food and they had left the meat off one of my orders. I called to tell them and they apologized and asked me to come back so they could correct their mistake. When I pulled up to the drive-thru, the MANAGER was waiting for me and gave me the corrected order AND a card for a free entree. I told her how much I appreciated her quick response to make the order right and she said that is what they aim to do. I'll keep going back to...
