THIS 1ST response is for the quality of care and service, not the building. Normally I give Hyatt Place 5 stars and a glowing review. Before we begin, ALL of the people working at this location are fantastic and get 5 stars each. I needed some docs printed and since the printer was down in the business center, she gave me her work email, told me to send the link, and asked me what I needed. The turnaround was 15 minutes, and she was dealing with a huge party at the bar and lounge. She made the time to stop handing drinks out at the bar and then walked up to my door to hand me the copies I needed. The location is perfect and close to an entrance to campus.
Here is the 2nd part: The World of Hyatt did a crappy upgrade inside the building and the rooms. The place smells old. In my room, they just painted coat over coat probably over 4 coats already on the walls. The ceiling is sprayed and popcorn paint. They did a cheap overhaul and then just moved their furniture in. Keep your room cold or it will get musty and humid. Prices here should be more around $70 a night, definitely not $100+. Parking is free on-site and there is plenty of parking. The area around the hotel is busy. As I lay in bed at my Hyatt Place in College Station giving this review, I can hear the hustle and bustle going on outside. I'm 4 floors up and I feel like I'm in New York City. I would like to know about the fancy velcro backing, and stitched carpet baseboards. Biggest issue: These rooms are priced way too high for lack of the Hyatt World company buying up old hotels and other properties. Keep this up, and Hyatt Place will become a Motel 6. Bad wall repairs, too many coats of paint on the wall, plate covers from like the 1980s.etc Up until today, Hyatt Place has been my family's choice for 20 years. Hyatt Place made us feel like we had big money. Our 2 kids thought we were more than rich and felt like they were entering a place where they might see Miley Cyrus or other stars. I used to call Hyatt Place the poor man's castle. If more Hyatt places continue to refurbish their other locations like this location, make no mistake you're losing your base to Holiday Inn Express. Remember, I'm reviewing this SPECIFIC location, not all Hyatt Place locations. Perks: The full bar is open, breakfast is great, and the common area with the TV mounted is nicely put together for groups to...
Read moreUnfortunately I didn't have an opportunity to stay here. I was attempting to book based on past reviews and 2 of the 3 employees I had the pleasure of speaking to. When I called to inquire about the hotel and accommodations, the first employee I spoke to was kind, courteous, and answered all my questions. The second employee I spoke to and made my reservation over the phone was also kind. However the third employee I encountered was nothing short of disgusting and unfortunately that experience is what has prompted this review.
I called again to ensure my reservation would not be canceled since we would be arriving after midnight. This employee who answered was rude and condescending from the moment she answered. I was met with questions about my occupancy total. I wasn't aware that my room was reserved over the phone as 1 adult when booked by the previous employeee. Apparently hotel occupancy was high in town due to residents evacuating from Houston. I was trying to book 2 rooms since we are a family of 7, but apparently a 2nd room wouldn't be available for the second night. So I said I'd make it work.
In any case as I tried to plead and explain my case to the last employee, I was met with hostility and was informed she would call the manager who ultimately approved of her canceling my reservation. I was upset as we were an hour away from the hotel. I was told the max occupancy was 6 and I'd be in violation of fire code. I understand this, but asked is everyone quizzed and occupancy verified in the manner I was? I could have lied, but I was open and honest in my communication. I don't have an issue with rules, but I also know exceptions are also made.
As frustrating as it was, the poor customer service displayed was pitiful and even worse than my room being canceled. I wasn't an evacuee, but I could only imagine IF it was a family seeking refuge and a place to rest after no electricity for days. Imagine having to encounter this employee.
Proper training is definitely suggested for this employee to improve communication skills. Being argumentative and hanging up on someone is highly unprofessional. There are ways to properly end a call. In any case, we found another hotel 2 hours away that displayed the type of hospitality you would expect and worked on a solution to...
Read moreTwo months ago we booked a reservation for two rooms for two nights at the Hyatt in College Station, TX. I received 2 emails from them confirming the reservations. We were for my 8th grade sons baseball tournament.
The week before we left, my sons friend, classmate, and teammates mother passed due to cancer. The funeral was at 7:00 pm the night of our check-in at the Hyatt. As I knew it was a busy time in college station, I called ahead to alert the staff that we would not be checking in until about 1:00 am, but we would definitely be there and HAD to have our rooms.
After the funeral we drove for 3 hours to the Hyatt only to find that our rooms had been given away. It was 1:00 am and we had no place to go. Funeral, three hour drive, 1:00 am in the morning, exhausted 8th grader, baseball tournament in the morning, and not a single room left in town.
To make matters much worse, the late night manager at the Hyatt, Weldon, told me that I looked very upset so he called the police. The police came and told me we must leave the premises immediately as Weldon has issued a no trespass warrant against me. WHAT?
How does a hotel give two TWICE CONFIRMED room reservations away because you’re late due to attending a funeral leaving an 8th grader (and his family) with a game in the morning, stranded three hours from home? Corporate greed, quotas, and complete disregard for its patrons...and many other negative descriptions of the Hyatt. What a horrible horrible horrible hotel! Don’t stay there and support the Hyatt. As long as rooms are available you’re probably ok, but as soon as things get tight they’ll only think of their profits and leave you out in the streets.
So if you have a friend or loved one pass the evening of your reservation for a room at a Hyatt Hotel, DON’T attend the funeral or they will leave you stranded with no options.
SHAME ON YOU HYATT! YOU SHOULD BE EMBARRASSED FOR TREATING ANOTHER HUMAN...
