We always LOVE to come to Stella! Today was a bit problematic though. We arrived and it was a line out the door (as expected). I assured my family that the experience and food is worth the wait, because this was their first time. We finally arrived at the ordering counter, where a woman who I assume is newer (we have only seen her on one other occasion a few weeks ago). My boyfriend and I order first, then go sit at a table to wait for the rest of the family to order and pay out. My mom came up to me, very frustrated, because the lady taking our order STILL could not figure out my very few modifications to my meal. I go up there and explain everything to her and another worker, and the other worker seems to catch on to my requests (which are not complicated at all) quickly. Mind you - I order the same exact meal every time and I’ve never had an issue. The original order taker was still confused after I explained it several more times, but after several minutes, figures it out. My family was giving me a look like I was crazy because I talked extremely high of this place, so I said “I never have this much of an issue.” The order taker then replies something about it’s her first time taking this order and tried to guilt trip us into thinking she started yesterday - LIAR! 😂 She’s the one that took our order just a few weeks ago, where she also had issues! In conclusion, I am begging y’all to put people behind that counter that are more competent, because this is most likely one of the first interactions each customer has. I have been in the service industry for years, and it is NOT for everyone and some people are just bad at it. On top of that, some of our food took a long time to get out, and by the time I got my order, everyone was finished. Overall, I’m sticking with 5 stars ONLY because the food was still amazing and the general manager (I can’t remember his name) went above and beyond to compensate for all the trouble. We are not people that complain, and even after today, I will still talk very highly of this place. So thank you to the amazing GM that made it right! We...
Read moreStella has great food, but it always seems to miss the mark on amazing for me. Before I go into detail I will say that I keep ordering this dish because it's easy and I like it, but I do not come to Stella for it. Most often, someone else wants Stella and I'm just tagging along
Most recently I have been ordering their Avocado Toast with Basted Eggs. The eggs are perfect, but the avocado toast is severely lacking and here is why:
I don't mind so much standing in line to order a meal. Although there wasn't much on the menu that was appealing, I do like a good biscuit and like trying new things. After placing our orders, we we're expected to pay (including a tip) before we were served. I do mind that. So, no tip at that time. ( I can leave cash later.) We seated ourselves, which is fine. The decor has some interesting things: glass canning jars transformed into lights hanging from ladders around the center of the room, partial murals with mountains (in Texas??), interesting seat backs on the benches. Our meals were served promptly by a man wearing a chefs jacket. Southern Eggs Benedict for me. The biscuit was heavy and the gravy was tasteless, the eggs were perfect. My husband's eggs were overdone, the home fries not seasoned and the ham was thin and curled (over cooked). The same person who served came back and asked how the food was. My husband said "all right". The server just stared at him for a couple of minutes, then said "That's not what we want to hear, we like to hear "Amazing". I told him it was NOT amazing, in fact it was barely good. When my husband explained the problems with his meal, he was told some story about country ham versus Virginia ham. Then he just walked away. No apology, no comp for an inadequate meal. His excuse was a complete fabrication since my family has made ham for years from raising the animal to putting ham on the table. Long story, I know if I had read a review like this, we would not have gone there. It's supposed to be a Southern Cafe. I'm from the South and the only southern things were biscuits and gravy (sub par). No cash was left on the table. We...
