I'm so glad Wing Guru opened in Collierville. I've lived in a lot of places with great wings, and was really missing having them available.
The bad: If you've been to many wing places in the Memphis area, expect the service to be on par. Definitely not the chick fila experience, but it honestly grows on you after a while. Personally, I'll gladly sacrifice fake pleasantries to get some awesome food. Also, they can be a bit slow if you're trying to order there. I'd definitely recommend calling in your order (have a card ready because you have to pay over the phone) - I do this every time and my order has always been ready when they said it would. Finally, they can be a bit stingy. No veggies or roll like a lot of Memphis competition offers at similar or lower prices. They can also be stingy with the sauces (like to the extreme that I've wondered if they forgot to put it on at all), so I've started asking for extra sauce every time I order.
The good: After all of that, you're probably wondering why I still gave them 5 stars. The wings are really that good. The wings are perfectly cooked - big and meaty with crispy skin. The sauce selection is great. I've tried most of them and every one is unique and packed with flavor. When something says it's spicy, it really is (especially compared to many of the American chains in the area). They changed some of the names recently, but my favorites are: x-hot, lemon pepper hot, triple j, and guru gold suicide.
I've strayed from the wings before, but honestly thought the fries and slaw sucked, so I stick to...
Read moreCame in to pick up an order that was already placed online. When I get there they tell me it will be just a little bit longer maybe about 8 minutes. 20 minutes later I asked the lady if she can tell me about how much longer that it will be and she said I apologize we only have one person in the kitchen right now but it shouldn't be too much longer. She then finds out that they are out of party wings which is what my order consisted of only. She then proceeds to tell me it will be about another 20 minutes. I got up and walked out because this is very unprofessional to have someone wait what would have been almost an hour for something that should have been ahead of the other people's orders as far as the time it was placed. So not only was I sitting there for the first 20 minutes without anyone checking on my order and being told that it was almost ready but truly it was not even being worked on while several people kept getting their orders and leaving. When somebody comes in to pick up an order you should check the status of the order so that you can give an accurate wait time rather than having them just waiting while nothing is being...
Read moreI debated writing a review, but here it goes. I have been to this location at least 5 times and each time is a different experience. First time wings tasted as if they were taken out of the freezer second time hot and delicious. I even waited for this location to get the kinks out, but they just haven't! Superbowl Sunday ordered wings in advance and you must pay by the way up front, wings terrible! Spoke with the manager got a redo good. Last Saturday wings horrible no sauce no seasoning and for $50 I can't anymore. Consistency is key. I would suggest DO NOT call ahead and order they tell you 25 minutes, but when you get there your order is cold. Go in and wait ! Good...
