I still gave them a 5 because the food itself was amazing.

I took my boys on a fancy lunch date today. They LOVE ribs. And I had come across a photo of the ribs on, Let’s Eat! Pagosa Springs, Colorado on Facebook.

Great - The ribs were seriously delicious. Cooked perfectly! The house made BBQ sauce is BIG, big yum! I would have ordered 2 street corn sides had I know how good it was going to be. Chef knows his stuff! Lots of compliments to the chef.

Not so great- $35.55 for a pound of ribs that contains a GIANT bone. And no sides included. The bone may very well be half the weight. Yes. Premium smoked meat. And I will say again. Very well smoked meat. Perfect seasoning. He kissed the meat with the smoke where so many places suffocate the meat. So. Ok. I dont expect a $18.99 tag. But holy $36 for JUST a pound of meat, hurt a little.

Its counter service. Not even really counter service. You walk up to a bar and order food from a menu. There is no direction or greeting. We stood at the entry until I finally asked if we just grabbed a seat. I'm not against counter service. My spot is counter service. But a greeting or sign would be nice.

The meal comes out on a plastic tray with paper on it. The street corn comes in a small paper boat. The cutlery is plastic forks and knives. Napkins out of a dispenser. The BBQ sauce is served out of a big pump container. Zero music and just a few tables thrown in a room with a bar. It wasnt inviting. At all. The CHEF did come out and check on us twice. He was very kind and obviously very talented. But the experience as a whole was not great. Which is a bummer because I really thought I was taking my kids out for a special mom and sons date. $46 for a pound of ribs and an order of corn left me feeling a little disappointed.

I will say, if I found out that chef was working in a more inviting establishment with table service, I'd be the first to be in line to check...

Square Top Barbeque is hands down one of the best BBQ joints I've ever had the pleasure of visiting. From the moment you step in, you're greeted by the mouthwatering aroma of smoked meats, which sets the tone for a fantastic dining experience.

The star of the show is definitely the meat. Every cut is smoked to perfection, tender, and bursting with flavor. The brisket was my favorite – incredibly juicy with just the right amount of smokiness. The ribs were fall-off-the-bone delicious, and the pulled pork was perfectly seasoned.

The sides at Square Top Barbeque are equally impressive. The mac and cheese is creamy and comforting, the baked beans have a wonderful depth of flavor, and the coleslaw is fresh and crisp, providing a perfect contrast to the rich meats.

The service is friendly and efficient, making you feel right at home. The staff is knowledgeable about the menu and happy to make recommendations if you’re unsure what to try.

The atmosphere is laid-back and welcoming, with rustic decor that adds to the authentic BBQ experience. Whether you're dining in or taking out, the quality and taste of the food are consistently excellent.

Ok y’all! When it comes to BBQ in Colorado- everyone claims they have it and that it’s “the best”; however, most don’t and have no clue why people don’t come back. In 2023, I read some positive reviews about Square Top BBQ and was a little skeptical going to a golf course to try it; however, “Hot Damn” it is the real deal - Texas BBQ. They know what they’re doing. The turkey is succulent; the brisket tender & tasty and the sausage is incredible — let’s not forget the sides (Mexican Street Corn & Beans)! I drive 45 minutes from South Fork each way for this and have never been disappointed.

Don’t worry about the golf course setting …. They have a patio with tables overlooking the course; San Juan Mountains and Forest — one of the most beautiful sceneries in Pagosa!
