The one thing I truly miss about Texas is good BBQ so I'm always trying to find something close (just good Q). Sadly, I did not get that from my visit at Stuboy's. I had been wanting to stop in for some time but it always looked closed (?). Driving by this past week, I was "YES" -- open! I came in and ordered the brisket plate to go. I was surprised it took so long to get my order (it was not particularly busy and there seemed to be sufficient staff) but it took a whole lot longer than I expected. I overheard another customer who came in for his takeout being told that it would be "another 20 minutes." (??). On the good side, the brisket was pretty tasty and the rub was solid enough. But the quantity was VERY low, and HALF of each slice was just fat (I should have taken a pic). Brisket is not supposed to be lean, but I wanted more actual meat (esp. at this price). VERY small sauce container, and that was only half-full (good sauce, just not enough). Everything else was just very basic (potato salad and slaw). Just "meh" but maybe I'll give it another shot...
Read moreWe were pretty disappointed with Stu's. There was no silverware or napkins when we sat down, and we had to ask for both when the food arrived. Silverware did not include knives which were badly needed for both the brisket and pulled pork. Our resident chicken expert gave the Nashville Hot Chicken a double thumbs up, although it needed a bigger, heavier duty bun as his sandwich fell completely apart.
The pulled pork was extremely tender but had little flavor other than smoke. This was the theme for the rest of the meal. Brisket was well cooked, a tiny bit dry, but badly needed some more salt and pepper. Both the potato salad and slaw seemed to be made with good ingredients, but both were also quite bland. Fries were good. There's one BBQ sauce offered, which was reasonably tasty, but we needed a lot more of it to give the meat some flavor. I am not sure we will give them another chance since there are so many better BBQ...
Read moreWe went for Fathers Day dinner at about 2:30pm. I feel like we should of been told what they were out of before she started taking our orders. They were out of Ribs, brisket, and wings. They charge about $15 per plate. What meat we were able to order (Chicken, Sausage and Catfish) was good. The catfish didn't come with lemons, no flavor really. The side portions were really small like a side of dressing. We asked for "BOSS STYLE" which was $3 extra and they gave you like 4 slices of jalapenos a couple of pickles and a few pieces of onion. They were very strict about substitutions. For the kids in our party we asked for chicken strips w/ mac n cheese as a side and they said they could not do that even for an upcharge, we then ordered 2 w/ fries only received one order, but we did not get charged for the other one. More training would be helpful for the...
