We were interested when a sushi place came to town, although we were just recently aware of it. We stopped by for a late lunch last week (they are open continuously from noon, 7 days a week which is very practical for this) and were amazed at the food and service. We were just in Japan, and Victor's has an excellent selection of Japanese cuisine (sushi, sashimi, tempura, ramen, yakitori, teriyaki, sesame chicken and vegetarian options) with creative twists. Apparently the owner has a long standing (28 year) interest in sushi and it shows. This is one of three Japanese restaurants that he and his brother Francisco are running (the other two are in Brush, Colorado and seasonally in North Carolina.)
The locale was a previous beer brewery restaurant, so it does not feel particularly Japanese yet. But decor was in good taste and comfortable (inside and outside seating). And the food says it all.....we had the baked mussels appetizer which was perfect and then sushi (shrimp tempura sushi with tuna on top and a phenomenal eel sauce). The mochi green tea ice cream dessert is a must. They have good wine and beer as well and , apparently, a wonderful Happy Hour from 3 to 5.
Kat was our friendly server and gave us excellent advice about the food. Francisco the chef came and said hello as well. We will be going back as...
Read moreMy husband and I came here for lunch, we heard about a new sushi place in Pagosa Springs and wanted to try it. I'm so glad we did because the food was amazing. Everything we ordered was delicious, from the appetizers to the rolls. I also loved the fact that they have a full bar and serve cocktails not just beer and sake. The restaurant is also huge, they have so many places to sit and eat including the bar area with nice tables and high tops. They also have an outdoor patio area as well. I know this place used to be a brewery so I think they really utilized the space very well. I'm not sure why some people gave them bad reviews based on the ambiance, because there was nothing wrong with the space. Some people also left bad reviews saying its to expensive, but my husband and I ordered 3 appetizers, 3 rolls, and had alcohol and our bill was only $120. For sushi and drinks that's not expensive at all. The rolls are not small by any means and the most expensive roll on their menu has lobster and steak on it. You get what you pay for and the food is delicious. I highly recommend you try this place if you want to enjoy a nice sushi...
Read moreA lot to understand. I have eaten Sushi on multiple continents in dozens of city's across the globe. The sushi here is ok to good at best. It's not excellent by any stretch. The prices are high, actually quite high. I ordered a few specialty "high end " pieces just to see how the quality of tuna was, and it was not worth the money. Not better than city market tuna, in my opinion. I also got a BBQ squid, it was badly over cooked. Flavor was fine, texture was challenging given how over cooked it was. The atmosphere is good, enjoyed that. Service was good, and I also enjoyed that. All told I would go back, but I won't be in a rush to do so. Especially given the price. Also, understand that bringing in decent seafood to Pagosa is a challenge, so a bit pricy is expected. But the prices were too high for what you get in my opinion. I did not skimp, so you could eat much cheaper than I did. And that would be a good choice since the high-end food was not worth the money, stay with the basics and you...
