Pickles Café – Columbia City, IN
Stopped in for breakfast on a road trip and this place surprised me in the best way.
Pickles Café is a cozy, family-owned spot with real charm — colorful walls, vintage art, mismatched chairs, and a hand-written chalkboard menu that feels straight from someone’s home kitchen. It’s got personality, heart, and zero pretense.
I ordered the Greek veggie wrap — portabella mushrooms, hummus, crisp greens — served with a side of fresh melon and pineapple that hit just right. Light, clean, and satisfying. The menu’s full of classics like omelets, French toast, grilled cheese, salads, and wraps, with plenty for both meat-eaters and vegetarians.
Service was warm, unforced, and real. My server had a peaceful energy and a tattoo of the Seven Sisters constellation — Pleiades. That small detail struck me. It felt like a quiet confirmation I was where I needed to be.
Didn’t get dessert this time, but they’re homemade and looked like the kind of thing you come back for.
If you’re passing through Columbia City and want something real — not fast food, not fake hospitality — just good food, good people, and maybe a little quiet magic if you're paying...
Read moreBy far one of my favorite restaurants of all time. Between the food and the environment. It's nothing short of stepping into a time machine or another dimension. The food is completely out of this world. Things you'd never expect to see together in a recipe, on a platter, or in a sandwich. Collaborating together so well. Blowing your taste buds away along with your mind. A relaxing environment indoors and outdoors. It's nice to bask in the sun with their outside dinning on a nice warm day, sun bathing and enjoying the modest traffic of Columbia City. Or step inside and enjoy the lovely, lively, warm environment indoors. With wonderful art strawn about, decor and nick nacks. Always a delight and even more so with company. Stop on by and you won't be disappointed!
Thanks Pickles Cafe' for being a wonderful part of our town...
Read moreNot at all worth the cost. The food quality was pretty good. The portions are very small. Understand this is like dining in a very rustic living room staffed by family members. The staff is friendly but it's obvious from watching them work they've had no formal restaurant training.
The Ham n Cheese sandwich consists of 1 slice of ham and approx 1/2 slice of cheese. Maybe the bread is amazing, I wouldn't know because I don't eat bread. The soup is served in a tea cup.
The water is clearly well water, so I had to order a soda, and they charge $1.95 per 12oz can of warm soda. Since it's warm you get the added bonus of the soda going flat once you pour it over ice. FYI the soda is the 7up family of beverages and Diet Pepsi. It's not like you're getting a Stewart's or IBC soda...
