UPDATE: I came back so I could hang up that 5th star! My daughter ordered the same chicken sandwich as last time and it was perfect! I opted for the 3 pc fish dinner with waffle fries and their homemade cole slaw. One bite of the fish and I knew I had made the right decision. Delicious! The cole slaw was amazing! I loved the sweetness. Service was awesome and the entire staff was very welcoming. Very happy we made a return visit! ORIGINAL POST: My daughter and I took the bike out and ended up in CC and decided to check out The Square for lunch. Pleasantly surprised by the cleanliness and the quick greeting we received. My daughter loves chicken sandwiches and I'm all about wings, so it worked out. I ordered a Pepsi and she ordered lemonade. When the server brought my drink I was super excited to see the perfect ice for soft drinks. Can't explain it, but if you know you know. The food arrived and everything looked great. The grilled chicken sandwich was quite large and looked very appetizing. After the third bite I noticed my daughter started eating more fries and less sandwich. I asked if everything was alright and she said it was dry. I took a bite and while there was a good flavor, she was right. Ultimately she ate the bulk of the sandwich and all her fries. The spicy garlic wings were really good. Carried the perfect blend and just the right amount of heat. The fries were also good. The server was super nice and accommodating and ended up bringing me three refills. While CC is out of my way I will go back if I pass through again. Props to the owners for running an...
Read moreThe Square is a solid go-to for classic diner fare in Columbia City, offering a little bit of everything at fair prices. It’s the kind of place where you can count on a hearty meal without breaking the bank, and that’s always a win. The service is generally friendly, and the atmosphere has that cozy, small-town diner feel that makes it a comfortable spot to settle into—if you can find a seat.
One thing that stands out is the sheer variety on the menu. Having options is great, but when you see a lineup that includes a burrito, fish and chips, and a burger all in one place, you start to wonder if they’re spreading themselves a little too thin. It’s one thing to master a few dishes, but when a restaurant tries to do everything, quality can be hit or miss. That being said, most of the food is solid, even if the menu feels a little all over the place.
Be prepared for a wait during peak hours. The Square isn’t a huge place, and when the breakfast or lunch rush hits, seating fills up quickly. If you don’t time it right, you could find yourself waiting longer than expected for a table and your food. As Vincent Vega said in Pulp Fiction, “You don’t go to a restaurant like this expecting five-star service, you go for the experience.” And that’s what The Square delivers—a true diner experience, for better or worse. If you’re in the mood for comfort food and don’t mind a bit of a wait, it’s worth...
Read moreTwo of us had lunch today. Each ordered a burger. After 30 minutes, the burgers finally came out. Our original server did the table touch to make sure everything looked fine and then was never to be seen again. Someone else handled our check and was quite snarky, guess her bad day is ours.
Okay, so.. if you’re going to charge $14 for a burger and fries, at least send it out with a slice of tomato and lettuce. If you’re not going to do that, at least don’t send it out with the top off. It helps hide the fact this burger sat under the heat lamp until the cheese slice dried out.
The burgers came out well done (from the heat lamp), were dried out, and were “warm”..
The burger meat had a funky taste to it, not spoilage, but more of a “grey meat” taste. maybe freezer burnt? I would be surprised if I was told these weren’t frozen..
This was not $14 quality.. burger, bun, piece and a half of bacon, slice of cheddar cheese, and bbq sauce.
Side of sweet potato fries. Uhhh. Well, they were that.
This was a pretty disappointing burger...
