I made reservations a couple days in advance thinking that such a nice restaurant would be busy any night of the week. We arrived a little earlier than our reservation time, but there was no wait and we were seated immediately. The waiter took our drinks and appetizers order and we got our drinks in a timely manner. The appetizers ... not so much. The appetizers took a little longer to show up than the longest time one would EXPECT them to take, which, said plainly was way too long. After making a good dent in our appetizers and talking about how long it took for them to be delivered, the waiter took our dinner order. The main dishes took a VERY LONG time to arrive. I didn't notice what time we ordered our dinner, but I did notice that we had been at the table for about an hour and 15 minutes before our dinner was served to us. We were getting quite grumpy by the time dinner arrived. I ordered the vegetarian plate and added a lobster tail as my main dish. I gotta say, I expected a lot more lobster for $26. It looked like a 4 oz tail which meant it had about 2-3 oz of meat in it. Not a good value at all. The vegetarian plate was also a disappointment. Imagine a meat loving cook who has been forced to include a vegetarian option on his/her menu. He/she throws some basic vegetables on the grill to warm them up and then serves them over some basic mushroom and (rice or quinoa or something??) goop. It's like he's/she's saying "Here's your !@#$ veggie plate!" AND it cost $14. I could have gotten a better vegetarian meal out of a frozen box for $4 from the grocery store. My wife got the rainbow trout with brusel sprouts as her side. She said her dinner was good, but there we only 4 brusel sprouts! Really!?! Four!?! They were good, there just should have been twice as many. Again, this is a premium priced meal. Don't skimp on the ... well ... anything. My mother got the salmon with brusel sprouts, and her plate was also light on the brusels. The dessert was FABULOUS!!! WOW!! Yummy awesomeness!! But then... My wife and mother ordered decaf coffee with their dessert. WITH THEIR DESSERT!!! Well no, all the dessert was gone and we were talking about just cancelling the coffee when the coffee finally showed up... lukewarm. It's supposed to be "coffee and dessert". Not dessert and then several minutes later lukewarm coffee. The waiter gave us a lame sounding excuse about a broken coffee pot or not enough water or no hot water or something. We were pretty discusted by that time so his excuses just sounded lame. Needless to say, we will not be returning to the Grand Cru Restaurant in Columbia, Missouri. Very...
Read moreI wanted steak for dinner, so my boyfriend called a few places and this was the only place with no wait, that is how we ended up here.
It's a Friday night about 8pm and they were not busy at all, we were 1 of 3 couples that were there. The dining room is very small, maybe 10 tables. There is a fire place in the corner and lighting is a little low so it's more of an intimate setting. Each table is covered in a table cloth with a candle on top.
Service was slow. We weren't given a drink menu when we were seated and a list of non-alcoholic drinks are not listed anywhere. It took at least 10min for a waitress to even come over with a drink menu. (remember theres only 2 other tables and both of those are being tended by another waitress). The first 4 bourbon shots my boyfriend ordered they didn't have and when she finally did bring his drink-it was the wrong one.
I ordered the kc strip and it was juicy and it had amazing flavor, but not very tender. The side on all meals is the veggie of the day or you can upgrade to a different side....even cost more for fries. My boyfriend ordered the salmon and upgraded his side to macaroni with lobster. He did not like the macaroni at all and there was maybe 3 small pieces of lobster in it.
All in all it was a good meal, we will go back at some point because it was a...
Read moreWent here for a work Christmas party and what a disaster! The waitress took our appetizer order and then didn't come back for 30 minutes, at which point she brought our appetizers but still didn't ask for our meal orders. So those of us who didn't want an appetizer, but wanted a meal, waited an hour before she even took our order. My sister was appalled at the prices so she ordered a salad & a cup of lobster bisque soup. Her salad was mediocre & soup tasted like flour & water. I ordered the chicken con broccoli and it was very bland aside from the overwhelming mushroom flavor (and that's coming from someone who loves mushrooms!) I choked down a few bites in order to be polite and decided I'd try to take it home to fix it and make it edible. When I got home & heated it in the microwave (it was still slightly warm as it had only been an hour) I tried to stir it up after adding some garlic & parmesan cheese only to realize it was all swimming in what looked like pure vegetable oil. Only after I drained off at least 3/4 cup of straight oil (not exaggerating) did i think to take a picture and it still had this much oil pooling at the bottom right of the to go box! I paid $50 for a $22 room temp bottle of moscato & a $14 plate of pasta that I had to throw away plus the mandatory $7.40 tip to a waitress that...
