A Deeply Disappointing and Disrespectful Experience at Curry-Osity
On May 11th, 2025āMotherās DayāI had planned a special dinner with my family to celebrate the occasion. After hearing about a new Indian restaurant in town, Curry-Osity, I made a reservation for three people a full 24 hours in advance. We arrived on time, dressed in traditional Indian attire to honor the occasion, expecting a pleasant and culturally rich dining experience.
Instead, what followed was a series of unacceptable missteps that not only spoiled the evening but left us feeling insulted and disrespected.
Upon arrival, we observed a crowd of 5ā6 families waiting to be seated. When we approached the door attendant and mentioned our reservation for 7:00 PM, we were relieved to hear our name was indeed on their list. However, we were made to wait another 20 minutes, standing inside the restaurant. During that time, I noticed several already-seated patrons who had not yet received their foodāa clear sign of operational delay.
Concerned, I politely inquired about the estimated wait time. The attendant informed me that it would take an additional 15 minutes just to place our order and then another 25ā30 minutes for food to arrive. In other words, despite having a reservation, we would not be served until roughly 8:00 PMāa full hour after our scheduled time.
When I respectfully questioned the purpose of making a reservation if it led to such delays, I was met not with an apology or solution, but with rudeness and arrogance. The attendant, without any provocation or justification, abruptly asked us to leave the premises. I was stunned by the hostility and lack of professionalism. When I sought clarification, he repeated his demandāunapologetically asking us to āleave the store.ā
I chose not to escalate the matter on the spot. Instead, I walked out, humiliated and deeply disappointed. A celebration that was meant to be joyful and memorable turned into an experience marked by disrespect, poor management, and a shocking lack of customer care.
This establishment not only failed to deliver on service and hospitality, but they fundamentally failed to treat their guests with basic dignity. I sincerely hope they reflect on this experience and work to prevent such behavior in the future. Response to the business feedback:
Welcome to Columbia! I was as excited as anyone else in Columbia for the taste and experience.
On May 10th, 3:44 PM, I called your restaurant at 573-777-3101 to enquire if making prior reservations ensure timely service. And I was encouraged to reserve a time slot online so that there are no delays.
05/10 7 PM, After discussing with my family, I booked a spot online for 7 PM for May 11th.
Yelp sent a reminder on May 11th to confirm my visit, and I did reply that I am in.
I did everything I could on my part to ensure we conclude our dinner within a set time frame.
Your business failed to respect my time; there should be no denial on this part. My reaction was not at all towards your staff. What I pointed out is that the service is not good. Please ask your staff to brief you on exactly how my words may have been personally disrespectful towards him. If he mentions any single word that was towards him and not the service, I will come and personally apology to him.
When I mentioned that the service is delayed and I am disappointed, I was expecting an apology. Instead, he asked us to leave.
I have never experienced this much arrogance at any business.
You will not learn from anyone in this community that I have ever shown disrespect to anyone.
Despite all this, I wished him all the best before I left. And I am wishing you the same today. I know I am just one customer whose absence has no impact on...
Ā Ā Ā Read moreI wish I could like this place, but it has the absolutely worst service of any restaurant I've been to. We got there as a group of 3 at around 7pm. We were seated fairly quickly and given menus, but were not able to place our orders until 8pm, and ONLY because I went up to someone and asked if they would be able to take our orders. We placed an order for the Chicken Curry-osity, Paneer Tikka Masala and Naan Royale.
They got our order incorrect and gave us the Tandoor Paneer Tikka instead. The Naan Royale, which they told us "would take up half the table" they gave us was thin, burnt, and half the size of the photos other people posted. They also forgot our Chicken Curry and, the highlight of service for the evening, a waiter actually saw that we hadn't received our curry at 9pm, after we had finished the Paneer and the Naan had gone cold, asked what we had ordered, and went back to ask the kitchen staff about it. The curry came out about 5 minutes later.
That was, however, the only time anyone came to check up on us, and it was not a busy night. No one came by to refill our water which had been only the one glass when we were seated at 7pm. I had to get up and find a pitcher of water for the table, which the waitstaff then took from us to serve the table next to us after they started to complain. They had been seated before we arrived and still hadn't received their food, which we likely wouldn't have either if I didn't flag people down. We should have complained though, because the owner came out to speak with them and apologize personally and comp their meal, and their food came out quickly and perfectly afterwards. The waitstaff also started to float around them while completely ignoring us. At this point, we were the only two tables still eating, and there were only 3 tables total at that point.
So if you have to go here because the only other choice is India House, maybe take-out is better? And if you have to dine in, be sure to raise a stink and talk to the owner, because no one else in the front of house cares in the least, and you'll be stuck with a $60 bill for burnt naan, an incorrect dish, and some okay chicken curry, and no apologies or any...
Ā Ā Ā Read moreIf you are wanting a great Indian food experience, enjoy yourself at Curry-osity. The decor, service and most importantly, the food is very memorable and absolutely delicious. Itās a very new restaurant and I felt there are some quirks that theyāre still working out, but overall it is great and Iām happy it exists here in Columbia, MO. It seems highly appreciated if you book a reservation at least for the dinner timeframe when we went. We were asked if we had a reservation when we first arrived and I heard the host ask other parties the same question. Nonetheless, we didnāt wait more than 5 minutes for our table of 2 to be ready. They were busy and it was a Saturday night.
The one thing Iād like differently is that I wish that they had physical menus. They have a little paper in the center of the tables with a QR code that you have to scan to be able to see the menu. I think thatās a little tacky, especially for the level of dining that this place has its standards set at. Nonetheless, once your drinks and food start arriving to your table, you quickly forget about it and are overtaken by the wave of incredible flavors that ensues with each bite.
The prices are slightly higher than competitors, however, the experience, quality and taste make it worth it. Their drinks are non alcoholic including an NA beer. We ordered the āJuniper Cucumber Collins which the ingredients were juniper, ashwagandha, orange blossom, lemon verbena & Angelica. It was a well thought out and nicely executed beverage; making me feel very relaxed and it was enjoyable to sip on.
I like spice, on a ghost pepper hotness level. I wanted to go medium spiciness so I ordered it medium, which it was. The other dish we ordered was the chicken tikka masala at a mild level but it seemed a little more spicy than the medium Navratna Korma. So if you like spice, I believe that they can actually make it how youād expect it to be made. Iām looking forward to going back and ordering something at the spiciest level.
Everything that we ordered, from the drinks to the appetizer to the entrees; each dish was wiped...
