5 Below – Columbia, Missouri
When Five Below first opened in Columbia, I was really excited—like many others in the community—to finally have one in town. Unfortunately, my first visit left me disappointed. A couple of weeks after the grand opening, I went with family members and was surprised at how cluttered and messy the store was. Merchandise was scattered across the sales floor, shelves were overcrowded, and there was even broken candy scattered on the ground. As a sales manager myself, I know that a cluttered and disorganized store often discourages customers from coming back, which ultimately impacts sales. Honestly, it reminded me more of a disorganized discount store than a brand-new Five Below.
That said, I also know how challenging it can be to get a new location running smoothly, so I decided to give the store another chance. I’m glad I did. When I returned about a week ago, the difference was night and day. The store was well-stocked, aisles were clear, shelves were zoned properly, and the seasonal setup looked great. It was a complete turnaround.
Whatever changes the team made since opening clearly worked—and it shows. I even told family and friends that the store feels brand new again and worth visiting. On my second trip, I found myself looking for issues (like my district manager does during a walk), but honestly they were small issues in comparison to my last visit.
Overall, I’m happy to say I’ll be coming back and spending my money here. My only hope is that the store keeps moving forward and doesn’t slip back into the issues I saw during my...
Read moreI love 5 Below but definitely NOT thrilled with any of the staff members (Columbia Missouri location). Been several times and there doesn't seem to be single staff member that acts properly. Not very many are properly trained to assist customers. They would rather you check yourself out. Doing a return is very difficult. Staff members aren't trained and aren't allowed to do returns. You need a manager to do them and they aren't available. Store is definitely messy. Lot's of staff putting items away but not one is cleaning. I know this store is in it's early stages and sincerely hope with major guidance they can pull...
Read moreJust visited your Columbia Missouri store for the first time. I won't be likely to return. The shelves were virtually bare, stacks of boxes waiting to be unpacked blocked most aisles, as well as carts full of boxes. There appeared to be only two or three employees in the store and they were having a great time visiting and laughing with friends. We had to work around them to look at displays. This facility is new to our city but in it's current condition I don't expect it to...
