Hangry Joe's Hot Chicken & Wings — Restaurant in Columbia

BEWARE! GO TO ELLICOTT CITY LOCATION INSTEAD!! I waited a week to write this because I felt bad, but honestly I spend too much money here to be treated this way. I used to drive almost an hour to get this from silver spring, so I was super excited when they opened in Columbia by my house. I have been a loyal customer to this hangry joes since they first opened, but no more. The girl cashier who is usually there has long nails all the time which is not allowed when you work in food service. (I used to be a manager at chipotle for 6 years.) one day the app was not working and wouldn’t let me order online so I called in to explain this and was told by her that they couldn’t do phone orders. Okay understood, although she really wasn’t helpful at all. I came into the store and ordered and asked her to show me so next time I could correctly place it. She proceeded to PRETEND to place an order and told me I was doing something wrong. I asked her to show me and she said she placed it without having ordered anything nor did she enter her card info. I asked her how it would let her place an order if she didn’t put the card information in. Long story short she lied to my face, was rude to me, and did not try to help me at all. Also this location DOES NOT DO REWARDS!! Another reason I will be frequenting the other location in ellicott city next to sprouts.

I asked to speak with a manager and was told the manager wasn’t there. How is there no manager working during business hours ? Strange … she offered to call her but at this point I was ready to leave. With this kind of service I can’t trust that my food is being prepared in a clean and safe...

The food was good and the service is still getting used to operating with a flow. The chicken was juicy and tender with the no heat still having a touch of kick (think warming spice not hot) with a sauce that was quite tasty. The fries were....mediocre and some of mine were too large because they only partially cooked. We did not enjoy them much except to carry the sauce. The Cole slaw is honestly surprisingly good. At first it looked dry but upon tasting it was quite bright and perfectly shredded.

So the price is becoming the standard but they need to work on more uniform cuts. I had three big tenders and one small one and the fries being cooked or not was determined by size on my plate. I think if you absolutely want a bite close to home or want a spicy chicken experience this can be fun and cheaper than bon Chon. I would recommend trying here today and then again in a month or two once they have their legs. Shoes a lot of promise!

For many people the videos of the mukbang are off putting despite being a cult and non-american phenomena. Wow, this place opened up dangerously close to our house. My wife and I had the Mild Chicken Sando, 6-piece “Zing” wings, No Heat Chicken Sando Jr., and Waffle Fries.

The atmosphere is lively and vibrant, though the place is a little on the smaller side.

We ordered through the kiosk, but they also have online orders and in-person ordering. The wait time for our order was ~15minutes. When we received our food we were missing the Waffle Fries, but that was promptly solved.

The sandwiches were of the best we’ve had in a long time. Both were seasoned beautifully, the Sando Jr. was the perfect amount for those who eat just a bit less than the usual, accompanied with crispy waffle fries with their own un spicy sauce. The “Zing” flavor on the 6-piece chicken wings was like nothing I’ve had in a while. It was more on the sweet side, but with a very small hint of spiciness. We chose the blue cheese dipping for the wings and it had actual blue cheese chunks! It was great.

Our total was about ~$33 which to us felt very reasonably priced.
