Food here is wonderful …. no, we mean wonderful! better than most every other mexican/hispanic fare we’ve eaten in Tennessee, Alabama, and other states in which we’ve lived or traveled. We also agreed the food here is better than the Legends restaurant across the corner (where lunch for two with beer has easily cost three times as much as at Taco Express).

Service and staff here are pleasant …. no, we mean nice, friendly, courteous, and caring (a far sight better than the experience we’ve had at Legends).

OK, OK, not fair to compare Taco Express and the likes of Legends you say? Well, our meal was wonderful, tasty, nearly authentic to street and comida fare in Mexico; our engagement with the staff was refreshingly polite and authentic; the atmosphere (yea, not the same as a fancy Legends, we hear you) demonstrates they care about where they work, where they engage with their customers, and where they serve their wonderful food.

We categorically recommend Taco Express over any chain or franchise (national or regional) venue in Columbia.

This restaurant is under new ownership. They have made it just like the one across town but with nicer tables. The reason why I drove across town for this place was it felt more like a sit down Mexican restaurant and less like the take out place. You ate on real plates and drank out of a real glass. Now it is a take out place you can sit down at. You order at the counter, are served on Styrofoam plates and drink from Styrofoam cups. Even your salsa is served in a to-go cup.

If you like the original taco express, this place is for you. If you love the taco express food but wanted a sit down restaurant atmosphere, it is not that place any more.

So I have been going to Taco Express for years. Love their food. I have ordered food three time within the last month. A month ago, I ordered 2 soft tacos plain. Someone picked it up for me, I received 2 hard tacos with lettuce. No big deal, stuff happens some times, I don't mind their hard tacos, but I did pick out the lettuce. Yesterday, I had placed another order for 2 plain soft tacos and someone went a picked food up. Again, I received a hard taco, and only 1. I was quite upset yesterday especially because I was busy and couldn't go anywhere else for lunch. Today I really just wanted my soft tacos. So I ordered 3 plain soft tacos. AGAIN, I only received 1. It wasn't the meat I had ordered either. By this point I am sick and tired of the employees not listening to what their customers are ordering and what they want!
