I've been a loyal patron of the Cocknbull in the Rosewood neighborhood of Columbia for the past couple of years, and it's hands down my absolute favorite place in town to hang out. This local gem deserves a solid 5-star rating for several fantastic reasons.
First and foremost, the food here is consistently delicious. Whether it's a casual weeknight dinner or a special occasion, the Cocknbull never disappoints. What's even better is their variety of daily specials, ensuring there's always something exciting to try.
When it comes to pricing, this pub is incredibly reasonable. You get exceptional quality for your money, both with their food and drinks. It's refreshing to enjoy a night out without breaking the bank.
Sunday brunch at the Cocknbull is a must-try. Their brunch menu is packed with mouthwatering options that perfectly complement a lazy Sunday. It's become a weekly tradition for me and my friends.
But it's not just the food and drinks that make the Cocknbull exceptional; it's the people. The regulars who frequent this establishment are a fantastic bunch to hang out and chat with. There's a sense of camaraderie that's hard to find elsewhere.
The staff, too, deserve praise. They're not just efficient; they're genuinely fun and friendly, making you feel right at home from the moment you walk in. It's the kind of place where the bartenders remember your favorite drink and the servers treat you like family.
Overall, the Cocknbull is the perfect spot to meet new people, catch up with old friends, or simply enjoy a night out. It offers a great atmosphere, delicious food, reasonable prices, and a welcoming community. If you haven't been yet, do yourself a favor and pay them a visit. You won't be...
Read moreUpdated review: It's been seven years since I wrote my initial review here for Cock and Bull. Since then we've been at the pub almost every Friday night for our weekly happy hour. All of the things we love about the place are still the same. The beer and food are good and the atmosphere, too. But what has kept us coming back week after week is the service, especially from our favorite; Gina. She always has our table set up and ready. She not only knows our favorite drinks, but knows US. When Gina isn't there, the food and beer is still good and the other servers are fine, but it's just not the same. So, when you go, ask for Gina. She'll take great care of you and she'll keep you coming back.
A generally good casual dining/drinking destination. Above average draft beer selection that's more adventurous than most (about 15 taps). Liquor selection not as strong. As for wine, the good news is that there is some. If you are planning a visit, try to make it Friday and order the AUTHENTIC fish and chips special. Other dishes are good as well...typical bar fare. Atmosphere is literally...
Read moreCommenting on the recent negative review since it includes serious accusations, and I was present on the night in question. Tl;dr: the negative review is rage retaliation. They showed up after the last call, already overserved, and decided to use the internet to hurt a fantastic locally-owned neighborhood pub. The whole review is full of sound and fury but signifies nothing.
As I said, I was present that evening. My tab had been paid, and I was wrapping up work on my laptop as I finished my drink. Maybe 3 other patrons were doing the same. Any others present were staff. On the upside, I get to say this - if you live in the downtown, Shandon, or Rosewood areas - you're crazy not to make this your local spot for good food and drinks at great prices. Visit a second time, and you'll feel like you know the staff, and they will remember you. Even the negative commenter can regularly be seen eating and drinking - having a great time. A shame they did this, but I am sure we'll see them soon because you just can't stay away. Best Pub in Columbia...
